2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!
Coming from someone who used to go see Everything live about 5 years ago, this album shows how going mainstream can kill everything a band stands for. The songs sound strained and unlike the music I used to dance to for hours. I was SO excited when I heard that they had finally been signed, I went right to the store and previewed the CD. I first saw Everything perform almost ten years ago at a small bar in Norfolk, VA called Lewis's. I enjoyed the sound tremendously, and managed to catch them two or three more times before I moved out of the area. Then I forgot about them.

Fast forward until last year, when I stumble across this album in the bins of Tower Records in New York City. I put it in my CD player, and I realize again what a talented bunch of guys they are. Catchy tunes and skilled musicianship combine in original ways, creating fun and danceable songs. Highlights include "Be Gone," "Super Natural" and "Hooch." I like they way they draw in diverse musical styles, including jazz, funk, calypso and even zydeco, without turning the album into the unfocused mess it could have been.

This CD isn't perfect. Some of the lyrics are simplistic and forced (e.g., "Good Thing"), and some of the songs are just lightweight filler. But overall, it's a very stong showing and a worthy addition to any music collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy, July 7, 1999
By A Customer

Simply put - Happy - that is how this band makes you feel when you listen to them. Seeing them live makes you feel full of life - you can't help but want to jump around to their groove. The wide use of instruments used show their musical talent runs deep and their talent for making their OWN unique sound. For those of you who knew them years ago I'm sure you'll agree that the songs, "Soul Fish" and "Skinny white butt" (shake it Steve) would be well received by the public now as it was by all of us in the night spots where they played them back in our college days. My advise to all is: YOU HAVE TO SEE THESE GUYS LIVE!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it love it love it, April 3, 2000
This review is from: Super Natural (Audio CD)
If you've ever heard everything, you know that this cd was an exciting thing for them. Yes, it's a bit overproduced, but you have to be excited for the guys. From the cutesy song of Ladybug to Time Will Heal Me, you'll want to jam, dance, drive, or party with this CD. If you liked it as much as I did, go buy an older CD like Labrador or Solid...hear earlier versions of some of the stuff! They're a great band that's survived for years playing in holes like those on the Eastern Shore in Dewey Beach. And for those of you who have never seen them live - GO TO A LIVE SHOW! The energy is amazing, the fans are so much fun, and the music is better than you can imagine!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is one of the best summer albums of all time!!!, May 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Super Natural (Audio CD)
It is well textured, both musically and lyrically. The album starts off with the title track called "Supernatural," which starts as if you are in the room jamming with them in a far away house in the woods, thus starting the feeling of the whole album. The next song is the hit single "Hooch" which has a very laid back guitar intro (2nd Version), and it feels like you are thrust into a backyard barbaque and everyone is singing along with the very relaxing, molodic lyrics asking, "Who's Got the Hooch?". There is a very relaxing, also very dreamy mixture of echos, and a flowing vocal performance by Craig Honeycutt, and the beautiful harmonic performance by the rest of the band on one of the albums tremendous jems with the very emotional title "Time Will Heal Me." Which I believe is the best of the albums many highlights. Song #8 which is called "Upon These Dreams," evokes a very emotional response by it's listeners as well with it's very catchy "Upon These Dreams" background vocals, and a very floaty feeling structured with in the Verse of the song. And at the end of the listed songs there is a very quiet field of crickets (as I like to call it) that make you believe that the album is over, then you wait a minute or so longer and the song "Transition Man" begins, with a crescendo to a large peak and it maintains throughout the song, then halfway through the song it begins to relax with a borodue of highpitched noises overlapping the sounds of the other songs on the album which have been placed in the song just like samples, and it transitions into a harder sounding rock guitar sound to the end. This album is easily a 5 star album. If you are thinking of investing into the album, GET IT!!!

Thanks for reading -Sal Craw

Coming from someone who used to go see Everything live about 5 years ago, this album shows how going mainstream can kill everything a band stands for. The songs sound strained and unlike the music I used to dance to for hours. I was SO excited when I heard that they had finally been signed, I went right to the store and previewed the CD. THIS IS NOT THEIR BEST WORK. You can totally tell that someone else dictated this album. If you want to hear what Everything is really about, go out and buy their album Solid. Now THAT is what Everything was when I went to see them. I am very disappointed with this CD, and hope that these guys can get back to the music I know that they can play.

3.0 out of 5 stars Everything's not too much, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Super Natural (Audio CD)
Jam-friendly band touts instrumental eclecticism but falls too often into pop pratfall, nestled somewhere mildly noticeable between Mraz and Matthews on a quality scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Hooch" is just the beginning of a great CD, September 1, 2002

This is one of those CDs that I bought based on only one song that I heard (Hooch) and figuring that I probably wouldn't like the rest of the CD. I was very pleasantly surprised. It took a couple of listens, but the rest of the CD has really grown on me. "Hooch" is definitely the big catchy "hit" song, the rest of the songs are slightly different than "Hooch", but they are mostly very catchy and very well made. One song, "Great Thing (St Luicia)", is definitely my favorite song on the CD - in fact I think it is *way* better than "Hooch."
Happy listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Experience, July 10, 2011
This review is from: Super Natural (Audio CD)
This is as close to perfect a cd can be. If I were on a desert island and could only have 1 cd, this would probably be that cd. The music has the fun of a Reel Big Fish or Santana and the rhythm and rhyme rivaling Ben Harper or Sublime. The lyrics are beautiful. Everything is blended together perfectly. There's not a single bad song on here. The most popular was "Hooch," but its probably actually the weakest song on here, musically, lyrically. The hidden track "Who Do You Think You Are" is maybe the best song on the cd. My personal favorites are "Be Gone," "Good Thing," and "Time Will Heal Me." Very, very good cd, period. The best obscure cd you'll find.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 90s album, February 24, 2011
By
jvdi "jvdi" (Fort Lauderdale, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Super Natural (Audio CD)
I don't think I would have bot this. I think somebody bot this for me. I was pretty skeptical thinking "Hootch" was a typical 90s OK song. No big deal.

But this album grows on you over time. There is a lot of talented musicianship here.

I have been listening to this album since the 90s. Whenever I put it in every few months or so, I am never disappointed. It most definitely has stood the test of time.

It also reminds me of the late '90s. Good times.

I am not a huge fan of a lot of '90s music. However, this is a very solid album. Some very good songs here. You do NOT have to skip songs on this album. One should definitely get the album and do not get a couple of MP3 songs or whatever. The whole album is very solid from start to finish.

In short, if you made it to this page and are reading this review, buy this album. Do not listen to the negative reviews. It really is a good album and I am a harsh critic who has bot over 600 albums in my lifetime.
