Bar none, its one of the best systems ever made,

After Sega unleashed the 16-bit Genesis, Nintendo was at a crossroads because their classic 8-bit Nintendo system was dying out. So Nintendo makes their own 16-bit system, but used a much better graphics and sound chip than the Genesis had, and remained the top system until Sony's Playstation came out in 1996. What made the Super NES kick so much was its outstanding library of games. The first party titles were out of this world, not to mention the system also had some of the best RPG's to date on any system. All in all, if you can find a Super NES anywhere, I highly recommend buying one, its a piece of video game history, and Nintendo has not been able to make a better system yet. Below is a list of games that are also recommended to get along with the system for the best playing experience:Super Metroid

One of the best systems in history, to say the least,

Continuing on the success of the classic NES, Nintendo decided to make a 16-bit system that would turn into the other 16-bit system's (Sega Genesis) biggest rival. The name of that system is the Super Nintendo. The Super Nintendo had everything going for it back in the good old days. The system was more powerful than the Sega Genesis and it was capable of producing the best graphics ever at the time, great sound, music, and the list goes on. The controllers are designed very well, with four main buttons instead of just two (like the NES), two extra buttons on top for more precision in certain games, and a directional pad. Of course it also has a Start and Select button. But what really makes a system a bad or good one, is its games. The Super Nintendo has a spectacular library of games that all breeds of video game fans can enjoy to the fullest. It has great racing titles (Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Biker Mice From Mars, etc.), arguably the greatest collection ever of RPGs (Legend of Zelda, Breath of Fire series, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy series, etc.), hard-hitting fighting titles (Street Fighter II and Turbo, World Heroes series, Mortal Kombat series, etc.), puzzle games to challenge the mind (the Tetris series among others), some of the most classic platformers of all time, or action/adventure games (Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Contry series, etc.), and of course, great sports games (NBA Jam series, Side Pocket, and TONS of baseball, football, hockey, basketball, and fishing games). The games I listed are just a few of what I think are some of the best ones available, but there are literally hundreds of other great games that were made. I don't have a single complaint about the Super Nintendo. If you want to own one of the best, if not THE best video game system of all time, do yourself a favor and purchase the Super Nintendo while you still can!

Nintendo at the height of gaming...,
By Axel Law "The Happy Seizure Kid" (Derby, KS, USA) - See all my reviews

The Super NES is the best video game system by Nintendo, bar none. While it had a slower processor than the Sega Genesis (in which case future games had "FX chips" to enhance the games), it had better graphics and sound quality. Why is this system among the best? Obviously, the games are what count. No matter how advanced Nintendo gets, the Super NES has the most of the best video games ever made by anyone. Here's a list of some of the classics: Super Castlevania IV, Contra III, the Super Mario series, Super Turrican (a rare and often overlooked gem), Super Metroid, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Tales of Phantasia, the Mega Man X series, U.N. Squadron, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Breath of Fire I and II, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Starfox, Super Mario Kart, the Donkey Kong Country series, Super Mario RPG, Street Fighter II (probably the best one to get is Turbo, but Super Street Fighter II is also worthy) series, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (which is basically Ninja Gaidens 1-3 from the NES system), Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, and Rockman and Forte (a.k.a. Megaman and Bass). There are plenty more that are also worthy classics, but I thought I'd mention these above to get you started (although Tales of Phantasia and Rockman and Forte would be hard to get, considering they're only available in Japan for the Super NES). So don't vote NO because I forgot one game. Is this the best system? Maybe that's not true, but those times were the best; the rivalry between Nintendo's Super NES and the Sega Genesis was considerable. Both had extremely enthralling games that were of great quality (Nintendo had Mega Man and Mario, Sega had Sonic and Vectorman). So depending on your preference, you might want one or the other. As far as I'm concerned, both are a must-have. The days of Genesis vs. Super NES are the best in video gaming history. I say this as a true gamer; those were the good ol' days.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When the System + "Bundle" arrived, before Christmas (for my son), I was appalled to see that it came without any controllers. I was angry, I wrote a scathing review, then went through all my receipts and e-mails relating to Christmas presents I'd ordered, and discovered that this guy had sent me an e-mail explaining that he'd forgotten to put the controller in the package. I felt terrible that I'd written an angry, very bad review right off the bat, and removed it, and wrote back to him...he assured me that the controller was on the way, "be there tomorrow or the next day"......WRONG!!!!
It never did come, and in the meantime, I ordered a genuinely GREAT SYSTEM from a genuinely GREAT PLACE. Unless you want a big pile of disappointment for your child, or whoever you're ordering for, I would say, STEER CLEAR of this LIAR! And- this time the scathing review doesn't come down unless I receive a refund for this piece of crap, and the 2 (not 3, as advertised) crappy games that came with it. I really hate to write bad reviews, and there's only been one other time in all the years I've been online that I've felt I needed to, so this is #2, and I sincerely hope, the last bad review I need to write. AND- I'm very much hoping that this will save others from making the mistake of ordering from this seller. :^(

The Greatest Console Ever Made,

Sure, it's now outdated by N64 and Game Cube, but, if you missed out on SNES (were too young when it was in it's time) you should get a SNES rather than a PS2, Game Cube, Xbox or whatever. This console is from when people made sure their games were perfect and didn't compete to hav ethe greatest graphics. If you don't have one, get it and you will enjoy the great library of games, such as: Final Fantasy 2 and 3 (considered the best by many), Mario All Stars (Mario 1-3 and Lost Levels with better graphics), Super Mario World, Earthbound, Legend of Gaia, Harvest Moon, etc. Soem of them are being ported to GBA, but you can get a SNES for [cheap] in perfect condition. This is the best console ever. (Nothing can touch the Personal Computer for games)

Graphics. The one thing that plagues the idiot youths of today. That is all they care about, so they go out and buy an X-Box which has about 2 semi-decent games on it. The super Nintendo has the GREATEST games anyone could ask for, such as Secret of Mana, Chrono trigger, Mega man X and X2, final fantasy 2, and the best game of all time, final fantasy 3. These games are really fun, and you can play and replay them all the time over and over again, as i have for about 6 or 7 years.Unlike the regular NES, this system actually plays everytime you turn it on. no more irritation of constant turning power off, blowing on the cartridge, and turning the power on REPEATEDLY. A grand repair of past flaws on consoles I really recommend you start the final fantasy legend on this great console, starting with final fantasy 2, then work your way up to the greatest game final fantasy 3, then get the semi-rpg classic secret of mana. After beating these classics, get mega man X and mega man X2. Legend of Zelda: a link to the past is a very wise choice also. Even after THAT (yes, there are that many great games out there for this system), get chrono trigger, another classic rpg out there. other really good choices are Earthbound, contra 3, and king of dragons. I recommend you save your money and instead of buying that STUPID worthless X-box, you buy something worthwhile, like the Super NES. Just dont forget...GET FINAL FANTASY 3

This may be an oldie, but it's a goodie! You may like good graphics and that crappy M rated stuff you call Halo, but you will enjoy this to! I got mine on Saturday from a book store along with Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and a Super Gameboy. I fell in love with it! I think I play it more than my N64! I went to Gamecrazy and got another controller for eight bucks! I'm planning on getting Starfox for it, and definetly Megaman X! Once more, Nintendo has created another great game system! The only thing game-wise that is better would probably be a NES original. Overall:
Pros: Great games Awesome contoller Super Mario and F-Zero Cons: 32-bit graphics Old system It's great if you like old school! -Sonic

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is a wonder to behold. It revolutionized the way games' controls and gameplay worked. Of all the systems I own (which is a lot) I play my SNES the most. The thing is, the SNES was made before games needed to be "cool." Games back then were just fun. No one cared about complicated grapics chips, processing power or Max on-screen polygons capabilities. People cared about finding to "Top Secret Area" in Super Mario World, or getting all the DK Coins in Donkey Cong Country, or playing the great RPG's of the SNES (Chrono Trigger, FFIII, SMRPG, Arcana). I'm 19 years old, and I grew up playing the system. I might have a bias for it since I'm an "old school" gamer, but the system is definitely worth owning, especially for under $30. So go out and buy one! (and play Chrono Trigger!)
