Gerbil Potty,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Super Pet CritterTrail Outhouse (Misc.)
I have two gerbils named Acorn and Daisy. I have CritterTrail One and Two and one of these potties. Mine is blue and yellow. I put it in the petting zone in CritterTrail One because that was were the gerbils always used the bathroom. Now they use this potty. But they also sleep and eat in it. That's gross. They also throw a lot of the litter out of the potty. I only gave it four stars because Acorn chews up the yellow part on top. I wish they had made that out of something gerbils can't chew up. (If there is anything they can't chew.)

I use these for each of my male hamsters (they have seperate cages). I got them these when they were just babies so they grew up with it. They only use it for #1 and still go #2 in the cage but really that's where the smell is coming from. I don't actually scoop anything cause it doesn't work but I just dump the whole thing out and refill it. It's pretty sturdy and i haven't had any parts break. Start your animals off with this early and it's great for keeping the cages smell to a minimum.

I placed this on the cage as the only accessory to train the hamster to go in there. I placed his food and water at the other end of the cage. I put some "soaked" shavings on top of the litter and he learned to use the outhouse quickly! The accessible top makes cleaning easy. The scoop picks up the litter easily.

Great if you have just one hamster and have the time to get them trained. With two hamsters, pretty useless as they mark their space so they won't use it.

I bought 2 of these for our hamsters. One is completely trained and uses it only as an outhouse. However, the other hamster uses it as a bed. We have continually tried to train him, but no luck so far. I guess I would have to say that you have a 50/50 shot of training the hamster. I am overall satisfied and would recommend trying it. We did get lucky with the one hamster. Good Luck!

Wonderful addition to our Gerbils house,

This is very cute and easy to attach. All of the systems are the same size so they are interchangable. We had mice that immediately used this as an outhouse. Now we have gerbils. They love the small size and filled it with fluff. They use it as a bed but it's fine because gerbils don't smell nearly as bad as mice.

Gerbils Chew It Up!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Super Pet CritterTrail Outhouse (Misc.)
I have 2 gerbils named Acorn an Daisy (I wrote the other review where I said about them). I wrote a good review about this potty before but now I don't like it as much. When we first got it they chewed the clear part on the top. They chewed a big chunk off (It was all that was left of the clear part). Then Daisy tried to pull it down a tube because we put it in the Petting Zone. It was way too big to fit down. We took the clear part out so the gerbils wouldn't cut themselves. Then they chewed the other part so much the litter wouldn't stay in. We bought a new potty for them, and they've started to chew it up. They should've made these out of something else that gerbils can't chew!

Super Pet CritterTrail Outhousehow happy i was to see these cause my hamsters started to use one side of the cage for the bathroom and now they dont have to worry about that and its also so nice cause it keeps my cage cleaner and bedding last much longer i noticed i dont need to clean my whole cages out weekly now i just clean these outhouses daily and even after 2weeks my beeding is still clean so nice to have just one area they use to go to the bathroom keep everything so much easier

My gerbils do go to the bathroom in this but they also sleep in it. I have it attached to some critter trail tubing, it's not actually in the cage so it serves as a restroom, both for sleep and poop when they feel like getting out of the cage for awhile. I did have trouble figuring out how to disconnect it from the tubes and ended up snapping the connector but that was my fault and I was able to rig it back together. I bought another one and put the critter bath sand in it. The sand is fine and made a mess through the cracks but they seem to use both "outhouses" the same way.
