5.0 out of 5 stars Truely Silent!
I have a hedgehog (who is 100% nocturnal) and she adores her wheel! This is absolutely a SILENT wheel. I had one previously that was somewhat quiet but this one has been improved (it is a little more sturdy) and is so silent I worry that she's not getting her exercise because I can't hear her at night! I have to check on her sometimes to be sure!

We've gone on our second 12" Silent Spinner Wheel in less than a year. It is fairly silent at first, then gets slowly louder and louder. It's not deafening by any means, nor is it of any real bother. We've gone on our second 12" Silent Spinner Wheel in less than a year. It is fairly silent at first, then gets slowly louder and louder. It's not deafening by any means, nor is it of any real bother. It just isn't the "silent spinner" that is advertised. We use it for our hedgehog (she weighs less than 260 grams) -- and she loves it. My real concern is that the yellow knob on the inside of the wheel continues to loosen and pop off, causing the wheel to slip away from the mount. I'm not sure if it is a design flaw or we just get defective merchandise? It is properly mounted to the side of the cage according to instructions and not obstructed in anyway. Luckily, our hedgie hasn't been hurt by this problem. For the money, I would expect the wheel to be much more durable than it is -- compared to other wheels on the market. The stresses our hedgehog exerts is no more than any other small animal, and the wheel seems to be capable of withstanding much more. I've written an e-mail to customer support at Super Pet to get some answers regarding this issue. Hopefully, if it is a design flaw, they will resolve it. Until then, I would look elsewhere for an exercise wheel. Hope this helps any potential buyers.

1.0 out of 5 stars It hurt my little girl!, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Super Pet Chinchilla 12-Inch Giant Silent Spinner Exercise Wheel, Colors Vary (Misc.)
When I got this wheel for my hamster, I thought it was great. Cute, quiet, made her run like the wind. Then I saw the little blood prints all inside the wheel and her cage. Checked her out and found that one of her feet had a layer of skin scraped off. I could be wrong but I am pretty sure it was from one of the grooves where the 2 sections of plastic click together. They are pretty sharp. It is disappointing that this didn't work out. Now I have a truly solid wheel with nothing that can hurt her. Too bad it can wake the dead. The sacrifices we make for our rodents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coolest on the market!, September 7, 2006

I just purchased the Silent Spinner after spending many dollars on different wheels for my gerbils.
The SSEW (Silent Spinner Exercise Wheel) is made of heavy durable plastic and can stand upright in a tank or can accomodate any cage. My adult gerbil just loves it and hopped on the SSEW in minutes and figured she would give it a whirl. She stayed on there until she was exhausted. I purchased a little SSEW for my newborn gerbils and put it in the gerbil tank with the mom and dad and 3 1/2 week old gerbils. Even though the little SSEW is way too small for an adult gerbil, the baby gerbils even gave it a ride and I felt that the product was so safe and durable that I left it in the tank for the young ones to learn on.
The SSEW is affordable, comes in different colors and sizes and it IS Silent! No sound but the pitter patter of the paws from your favorite pet!
The SSEW is the best and I would give it TEN stars if I could!

The only wheel I will ever buy for any small pet EVER again. There not lying, I have my dwarf hamsters cage RIGHT next to my couch with 2 of these wheels in them and I can have 2 hammies on them at the same time 2 feet away from my face and I never even know. They really are SILENT! And SAFE! I have lost pets to the wire wheels, and anthing they can get there toe through is a potential death trap, get some of these and you will never worry or be kept up all night again!

Also, make sure you get the appropriate size for your pet. I have the 4.5" model for my dwarf hamsters and it it perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Wheel, July 8, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Super Pet Chinchilla 12-Inch Giant Silent Spinner Exercise Wheel, Colors Vary (Misc.)
These wheels are really good how they are silent, and a your pet won't get their feet stuck threw them. The only problem I have is that my hamster is growing out of her size 6 and a half inch wheel, and whenever I go to different pet stores, I find wheels way too big or the same size a have. That might be for me, but maybe in your area they have different size wheels. Overall, these wheels are really good and silent, and I find my hamster on hers every night!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for Chinchillas, March 26, 2011
This review is from: Super Pet Chinchilla 12-Inch Giant Silent Spinner Exercise Wheel, Colors Vary (Misc.)
While the idea of this wheel is genius, I do not recommend it at all for chinchillas. While it seemed a great size at first for my young chinchilla, he really outgrew it in no time - not only that, but because it was plastic, he began to chew it apart (which is not good, because plastic causes intestinal blockage for chinchillas). I immediately removed it, and purchased a metal wheel specifically designed for chinchillas. It may have been more pricey, and certainly not whisper quiet, but I haven't had to buy a new one due to him chewing it up or outgrowing (both he and I have been happy with the metal wheel for at least 2 years now!).

2.0 out of 5 stars Good at first then broken, July 26, 2010
This review is from: Super Pet Chinchilla 12-Inch Giant Silent Spinner Exercise Wheel, Colors Vary (Misc.)
I got this wheel about 2 months ago and in the time I had it it was not balanced at all and every other day I would have to pick it up and set it up right for my chinchilla. When he would run on it it tilted and made him run sideways. Along with that it is more silent than a wire wheel but not quiet in the least. I can hear it squeaking from the other room. And about two months after I bought it, it snapped and the plastic cut jaggedly off of the center component. It could have seriously injured my chinchilla if it got its leg caught. I do not recommend buying this for how expensive it is.Super Pet Chinchilla 12-Inch Giant Silent Spinner Exercise Wheel, Colors Vary

This wheel does the job just as it is named "super silent spinner". I have silent spinners of 3 different sizes for a variety of animals in my home and the Silent Spinner brand is by far the best I've tried - that's why I keep buying them! They are much quieter than the others. As for this super-sized 12 inch wheel it is also better than the one I had before because it has much more support. I use this wheel for an african pygmy hedgehog and he loves it! It does work fine as a free standing wheel, but I have removed the wire stand (it is meant to be removable) and used the "screw" at the back to attach it to the side of a wire cage. It works just great like that. The one I had before bounced when my guy ran in it. This Silent Spinner does not bounce when he runs. Also, as the name suggests - this wheel is very quiet. Much quieter than the others!

Only one problem ever - One time the "nut" in the center of the wheel came off and had to be screwed back on - it's just a hand tightened nut thing. No big deal.

Also, the first wheel I ordered arrived damaged due to poor packaging. (The clips on the back broke off from no supporting materials in the box.) Amazon promptly resolved the problem. A new one was shipped and a full refund issued for the damaged one.

Final word - it's a great product! Don't waste your time or money with another brand - you'll eventually come back to this one.
