Disappointed,
This review is from: Super Rare Disco 2 (Audio CD)
Having very carefully chosen this CD based on my own memory of the tunes, the music sampler available and, most importantly, comments from other reviewers, it transpires that only 3/20 tracks are more than 4 minutes long. Majority of the tracks are between 3-4 minutes long. Not what I would term as 'Super Rare Disco' at all. Rare Disco is surely the full length 12 inch mixes that would have been played in the clubs, as opposed to radio edits!!! Yes, I realised there were 20 tracks in total on this CD...but not one of the previous reviwers stated all 20 tracks were on just ONE CD, nor the fact that majority of the tracks were radio edits. Shame, as majority of the tracks themselves are very good. Disappointed.

Super CD for True Disco Lovers,

With so many compilations on the market and most just repeating the same tracks by Donna Summer, Village People and Gloria Gaynor, this CD is long overdue. For those of us old enough to remember those hot disco nights, these were the songs that the dj's were playing between the AM radio hit - and they set the pace in a club. Want to learn how to mix '70s disco? Try this. If you can you're a master. With most tracks recorded in the days before beat boxes, Roland drum machines, click tracks and all the electronic stuff used today, this was just great music, flaws and all. This and Volume 2 are winners. Let's hope the label finds enough material for a couple of more volumes.

Great "Obscure" Disco,

I am very happy with this compilation. To me this is better than the commercial compilations that have the overplayed (but still great) classic disco songs. I'm always looking for something that would take me back to the songs that were a hit at the time, but somehow fade slightly from the mainstream as time goes on."Mainline" comes to mind. You won't find that on every classic disco compilation. That's what makes it great. "Ten Percent" - the first commercial 12" record. GREAT! I am a DJ, but purchased this CD more for listening. But it is great to take to the club and spin a few times for the party goers. I also appreciate the fact that there are 20 songs on this CD. Making for a large compilation compared to some other CD's that offer only 12 or 13 tracks. If you are a disco fan, I recommend this CD to you.

One of the best collections of 1970's hustle music. As a former New Yorker, I still own hundreds of hustle 45's and 12-inch dance records from the 70's and wanted to get the same songs on CDs. This collection of 40 hard-to-find disco songs (on Volume 1 & 2) is great. I liked Volume 2 slightly better than Volume 1, but both are excellent. Even the liner notes are incredibly well-written by a New Yorker who really appreciates classic disco music and who lived through the NY dance club scene in the 70's.

If you are a disco fan that has "The Disco Box" and/or "The Disco Years, Vol. 1-7" and are looking for something different, then look no further then this collection along with volume 1. It's a great supplement with the well-known mainstream artists. The packaging is superb: entertaining liner notes along with song credits and chart positions. Highly recommended along with volume 1.

Not your average disco songs...,

"When the Fuel runs out" by Executive Suite had to be my favorite song to "BUMP" to back in the day on a local show called RJ's in Philly circa 1973/74. Hearing "Smarty Pants" by First Choice and "Happiness is just round the bend" by The Main Ingredient brought back such good memories of a lost time. For these songs alone, the CD is worth the money. The Hues Corporation, Double Exposure, Crown Heights Affair and The Originals just add to the unusual mix of songs that were popular back then but not sure why forgotten now. Listen, buy it and take the trip back.

... and for me that's quite a rarity nowadays... where half (or ten) of the tracks I like ALOT!! (The other ten tracks were just "OK"...) While most discophiles would recognize songs like "Let's Start the Dance" and "If My Friends Could See Me Now", just by the song titles alone, there were other songs that, only once I HEARD them, was I like "OMG.... I haven't heard this song in over 20 years!!!" Songs like "Mainline" and "Love Insurance" brought back very fond memories of when I was around 14 years old, dancing up a storm in my bedroom, because I was too young for the clubs! Ah, if only I had been born a few years sooner, as by the time I was old enough to go to the discos, disco was on its way out! Anyway, those who loved disco of the late 70s will surely love this CD!!
