Editorial Reviews

About the Artist

By recovering in the context of epoch (1985), it was incredibly necessary to be seasoned to take up a trio around the sampler. The Young Gods was never afraid of anything. By creating an unpublished musical grammar which owes so much to rock, to industrial music, in classic, in the baroque, in the ambient or in electronics, Swiss training bets on foot by Franz Treichler stays, twenty-two years after its beginning, of a rare pertinence and an impressive coherence. Their searing new album Super Ready / Fragmenté, alloying potency and subtlety in a unprecedented way, confirms that The Young Gods is more than ever in stage with her epoch. Venturers, land-clearers or mad scholars, The Young Gods remains an inevitable reference in today's music. Mike Patton, Black Wish, Chemical Brothers, Maynard james Keenan (Tool) or The Edge (U2) demand the inheritance of the helvètes young persons Gods. But do not repeat it to Franz Treichler, Al Comet and Bernard Trontin. The Young Gods always made rhyme humility with creativeness. Whether it is by revolutionizing samplers with their first albums (The Young Gods and Red Water), by transcending Kurt Weill (Play Kurt Weill), by signing them earth masterpiece (TV SKY), moving away from guitars (Only Heaven), by becoming soaked with the electronics of the nineties (Natural Second), of the ambient and quality-labels as Warp (Heaven Deconstruction) or offering an album influenced by the generative music of Brian Eno (Music for Artificial Clouds), The Young Gods does not cease reinventing. Avoid routine. Rebound. Launch into new challenges, new plans. Feed soul and continue exploring new territories. These last years, Gods played with a symphonic orchestra to celebrate 20 years them, rewrite the original soundtrack of the film Woodstock by playing it live in Geneva on the occasion of the holiday of music, collaborated with the anthropologist Jeremy Narby (sonic called conference Amazonia Ambient Project), worked with the museum of the Sciences of Geneva for plan Aquanaut and occurs in acoustical expression. It is all these plans and collaboration that allow Young Gods to keep this triumphant freshness that they find rock on very and organic Super Ready / Fragmenté. The case (suggesting a revolver) is already an indication in itself on the positioning of Young Gods in the today's world. Treichler, Trontin and Comet report the trivialization of the violence. In Switzerland explains Franz, recent statistics showed that they know the precise number of dogs while they have no idea, even rough, among weapon. The Young Gods exists to suggest and share emotions, impressions, without issuing definite message. We believe three every in the huge power of suggestion of music. The violent aspect of the album is our way to react to actual sociopolitical context. The twelve compositions of Super Ready / Broken up are of a really great sonic potency. Of wickedly rock " I' m The Drug « or "Freeze", by way of abstract « It is what it is çà », play "El Magnifico", mind-expanding and emotional "Stay With Us", the fresco « Super Ready / Fragmenté » (nine minutes of introverted sound trip and piece spindle of the album), the paranoiac and dadaïste "Secret" or very blues « A point it is everything », The Young Gods delivers a big disc lived by voice consequently more clear, hot and powerful of Franz Treichler. This being, words have a key importance, as always, to Gods. With political and poetic « End time », the group if pupil against fright as street value. Fright is a very actual signature of the today's world reminds of Franz Treichler. How much of politician make elect by selling fright in the kilogram? Where represented, finely, relations within the couple with the imagination " Everythere ". Great Ready / Broken up been part of these major albums who, behind a palpable emergency and a feeling of insecurity, devotes himself and confides in the course of poisonous, disturbing and passionate listenings.

I wish I had the time to write enough to properly do this album some justice...

I've been listening to the Young Gods since the start and have always thought their work was some of the most innovative out there. I didn't dislike their work on Second Nature and whatever album came after that but it just never quite measured up IMHO. This album more than delivers. The guitars are back along with distortion, lo-fi and the sonic secret sauce that ties it all together. The vocals and drumming are also top-shelf. I've been listening to it non-stop for the past two days. It just keeps getting better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to form, June 10, 2007

I too have been listening to the YG's since their beginnings (which now makes me officially an old git).

After a bit of a wierd wobble with the last album proper, all ambient an that. Then a taster of quality with the new track 'Secret' on their best of. This album is just totally amazing, I cannot take it off my ipod.

The vox are initially a bit different but they slip in nicely and add a bit of range to the YG sound.

Great album.... buy it.
