Joseph Gama is a software engineer and has contributed more than 10,000 lines of TSQL, JavaScript, and C/C++ source code to the public domain. He has created and shared more than 800 rules for Snort, half of them for Microsoft SQL Server. He lives in Benicia, California. Nice reading,

This book has opened my eyes on many techniques and types data processing, which cannot be achieved with built-in features of MSSQL server. If you need to perform complex calculations or data processing on the database side then this book is for you.
I think the chapters about cryptography and regular expression in stored procedures are worth the price alone. Similar results can be achieved in MSSQL 2005 using .NET, but still external procedures compiled in unmanaged C++ (especially with latest Intel C++ compiler) beat them easily in speed and memory usage. You cannot get better performance then XPs compiled with Intel's C++ compiler. External procedures will be useful to those people who need maximum performance accessing and processing data in time-critical environment.

This book is not even remotely for anyone who wants to learn basic DB programming in C/C++.The book pretty much forces you to learn the authors' own DLL libraries and you have to connect to their DLL to run the samples. The fact is, any BASIC C/C++ programmer knows how to handle DLL's. This book just wastes your time with classes and DLL necessities. If I hadn't bought it used and paid such a small price for it, I'd ask for my money back, for the promo is entirely misleading. It states that this book is for C++ programmers who want to learn database programming... Forget it. Read the free MSDN articles, or buy another book. This one won't even REMOTELY get you on your way.
