5.0 out of 5 stars Saving Grace for Young Male Readers, April 10, 2009
Whether it's Junie B. Jones, Sisterhood or Travelling Pants, Harry Potter, or Gossip Girl and the Twilight Series for older kids, so much children's and YA novels seem geared towards girls. That's why this book is such a delightful change-up. We need quality, enagaging, well-written books for boys or the boy-ish, and this book works. I read every book my kids do (which isn't as much as used to be when they were toddlers) and found this earnest, smart and funny. It's got a nice easy retro feel, but the Walloper's anxieties are perfectly tuned to those of today's young readers. This is precisely the type of book that just might keep a young active boy away from video games and into a book. We cannnot wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really fun book!, March 17, 2009
A completely fun read for my baseball-obsessed 7-year-old son. He can't wait for the next one to come out!

5.0 out of 5 stars 8-year old son loved this one, November 11, 2010
My son says, "It's a great book for baseball minds, and there's a few more books in the series and they look pretty cool. The main character is very well described in every way."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Boy Book!, June 18, 2009
I read this book aloud to my boys (ages 6 & 8) and they loved it. They begged for "just one more chapter" every night! Although I purchased it to read to the boys, I did notice my 13 year old daughter hanging around a little more often to hear what all the fun was about. A super old-fashioned fun story with a great beginning, middle & end. We all cheered wildly after I announced "THE END."
