Alright, since I feel like there has been much confusion about the newer soakers, (2002 through 2006), I thought I would clear everything up, since I am a veteran of the soaker world and have some 50 soakers of all types. Super Soaker was bought by Hasbro, and since then, the guns have slowly declined in power, and have started using gimmics. Guns of the past reached 45 feet and up in range, but now hitting 35 feet is supposed to be awesome. Soakers of the past didn't need gimmics, because of their superiority to everything else. Now, those are the only things soakers have left.I can't say these kids posting reviews are being dumb, because they aren't. They most likely have never even seen older soakers, let alone use them, so they don't know what they are missing out on. I was around then, so I know how to post a credible review. Now, onto this years soakers, and their flaws. Max-Infusion Flash Flood: It doesn't get much range (30-35ft), and has a weak main nozzle that rivals the original ancient Super Soakers. The "Flash Flood" nozzle isn't a thick drenching stream, but more like that weak nozzle on a hose that no sane person would use, as it is neither accurate, nor able to saturate anything. The triggers also break a lot since Hasbro decided to use a new "Max-Distance" style trigger. Max-Infusion Defender: The best gun this year, it is tough, and ready. It gets the best range (~35 feet) but has a rather small nozzle. The awkward trigger and grip actually feel really good to ones hand. Max-Infusion Overload: It has a slightly larger Max-Infusion pack, but it still holds only a little water. Compared to the guns of today, it doesn't even hold much. The gun is a pistol, so it runs out of pressure fast, and it becomes rather annoying pumping the pump as it uses really short strokes. Range is okay. (30-35 feet) Max-Infusion Arctic Shock: It gets low range (30ft), holds little water, and the cold shots are never very cold unless you let the ice pack sit in the gun for a long time. Even then, it doesn't do much, and you can get colder water by merely putting ice cube in your gun if you havn't figured it out already. Helix: It uses a piston (like a pump) to push water out. It gets varied range, from weak (25ft) to sad (30ft), depending on your strength, and even then you can't aim the dual streams. This gun serves no other purpose in battle other than making people laugh at you, where you should then whip out your older soaker and drench them. Vaporizer: Like the Heliz, but has one stream. It can get 40 feet worth of range if you really try, and is a great backup if you don't already have one. Liquidator: Holds barely any water, but gets decent distance (35ft). It's pump is a little short, and the stream isn't very potent, but it fills the role of the pistol well. Oozinator: Actually gets decent range, but looks funky. The ooze is weird and pricey, so only get it as a gift for a little kid, because it is just about useless. All in all, the only good guns are the Defender and the Vaporizer. I would only reccomend those two, and only for someone that doesn't already have a good soaker already. I hope this thorough review solves any questions you had about Super Soaker. ~Crashdummy

The best of the super soakers,

I have almost all the Max-infusion super soakers, and this is the best. It has both a regular stream and the flood stream. The flood stream will get someone really wet, but they have to be about 10-15 feet in front of you. The regular stream shoots about 30-35 feet.I would suggest getting the shoulder water pack as you're only good for about two 'flood' shots with the standard tank. With the 50 oz. water pack you can get about 5 'flood' shots.

I bought these for my siblings, 4, 6 and 8, for Christmas. They are big guns. The 4 year old has a hard time, but manages to have fun. The other two have no problem pushing the trigger, but doing the flash flood function (which is cool, like a blast from a garden hose on steroids all of a sudden, all at once) is difficult for them. You have to pull it back quick and it does have some resistance that even I (25 yr old male) have a little trouble with. The spraying is fun, and it generally does stay strong until the end, but after giving in to the temptation to flash flood a couple of times, you are out of water and out of pressure. Another thing: the kids can barely pump these things to the degree they would need to. I am no hulk, but I pump these things as many times as I can before getting resistance and it does not last the whole tank of water. The good thing though is that these are consistently attractive toys, however difficult it may be to keep them pumped, filled and ready for play. I would highly recommend getting the water expansion bag thing (lets you have more water over your shoulder). All in all, we got this from amazon for half off regular price during the holidays (some weird one day only thing) and for that (seven bucks) it was worth it by far. We like, really like, but do not love, these guns.

This "shotgun-like" super soak works well at close range. But it won't win a spitting contest! The launching range of this soaker would make Evil Knievel die of laughter. Added to that, I've been reading other reviews about some of these "Flash Floods" breaking down or leaking after a few days of use and it is true. Mine began to leak and the trigger broke afterwards. All in all, this is a great gun in originality, but compared to other models, it's obsolete. Buy at your own risk!

I have the normal flash flood, and it is great! This is the exact same water gun, though. The only difference is the coloring. I am not sure if it works with the new back pack though. The normal nozzle is great, but the flash flood nozzle is very good. It holds a very impressive 40 oz. of water. If you have enough money, I would buy it! Also, you should look at the Aquapack Devastator.

I completely agree with Mr. Winterbauer. When i was a kid, the CPS and XP models of the Super Soakers dominated summer. XP guns were smaller, and could shoot at least 40 feet, some reaching 50, all while highly accurate. CPS (Constant Pressure System) guns were for power, shooting a thicker stream from durable nozzles. I myself owned many CPS guns and two XP models, and had tons of fun with other kids. Nowadays, guns have everything from laser pointers, despite the fact that playing with water guns in the dark is just ridiculous; Battery powered internal chilling mechanisms that reduce water temperature? Just use cold water from a hose, what's the point? And useless "flash flood" sprays that do nothing but waste water. If you want a good water gun, go for the old ones. Sure, they have different colors, they're orange, purple, and mostly yellow, but they're DURABLE, FUN, and SUPERIOR to any water gun you can find nowadays. Happy Summer everyone.

My roommate picked this up as a gift for one of his friends, and judging by its performance, I give it four stars. If you are a water-gun enthusiast, it is true: this gun is somewhat weak, and the shot-gun flash flood is worthless. But if you're just looking for some fun, or if you're a parent look for a water gun for your child, I recommend it, especially since the "flash flood" will likely be "cool" to kids who don't mind getting close and wet. But as it's December in Boston, I must end this review. At least it's not the Arctic Freeze Super Soaker.

I think the Max-Infusion Flash-Flood is one of the most durable water guns you can get nowadays. It is almost unstoppable at close range, but must be used wisely, because it does not make a very good sheild against anyone with a good aim, and has a shorter range than others. Also, I am always in a water fight somewhere, and i can tear apart someone with a Flash-Flood at long range.I agree with that other guy about how the old water guns are much ore powerful, for I have two of the old ones, and the smaller of the two holds at least twice as much water as any of the newer ones. You can still get the old ones at certain stores, but one that I have I don't think anyone will ever find it in a store again. it was a regular Tank of a water gun, holding I think up to 15 gallons of water, when filled, however, it weighed a ton, but had such a long range that you never really had to carry it far. Although they aren't in stores anymore, there is a way to match that capacity and power. If your water fight is close-range, you can attach the hose to your "Easyfill Cap" with packing tape ahead of time. But never turn the hose on full-blast, because it could over-pressurize the inside of the gun and break it. With this advantage, a Flash-Flood could win any close-range fight easy, almost matching the power and capacity of the Old Guns. -A. E. Martin

I got this gun about ten days ago and it is pretty good. I think it is pretty light as far as super soakers go at around 3 pounds, which is a real plus when carrying. The regular stream will go roughly 32 feet at a 20 degree angle, and if pointed straight towards the horizon it will go as far as the width of a three car driveway. The stream is medium strenth, strong enough to easily drench a soaker tag and send the opponent running, but weak enough to be little kid safe. The flash flood, this guns main feature is probably one of the more usful specials of all the super soakers, easily out matching the cold stream of arctic shock and the the weak but long lasting beam of the aqua pack gun. the range of the flood at any angle is 25-30 feet. This shotgun- stlye does NOT need perchice aiming as it spreads 2-3 feet wide and can soak a person fully that is roughly 5 feet tall. The flood power is less thanthe regular beam, but thouroly soaks them just the same. It has two sections, the top one the pressure chamber on top and the tank on bottom that holds more than a quart of water. This gun and the Arctic shock are the two guns that need max infusion the least. A full tank is enough to launch 2 or 3 flash flood with regular squirts in between. In a water war this gunis the best secret weapon. you can hold of enemies fairly wellwhile your team is refilling. If you use this gun as a regular weapon, it works great too. Also, its large mass acts as a good shield. This has to have been the best gun I've ever had. Be gentle with this gun and it will probably last a good amount of time, But most importantly, Have Fun!

I got this gun for "self defense" after an indoor water fight broke out at my summer program. It's compact, fillable from a sink tap, and accurate enough to get more water on your target then on the walls. Using the alt-fire is a good way to piss someone off, or get people who don't want to get wet to back down. It's unobtrusive and can easily be stashed. For fun at black lit dances, take the core out of a highlighter and tape it to the intake nozzle in the main tank. The resulting fluid fluoresces under the black light, producing a bright stream that makes whatever you hit glow. I drew some smilies on the walls and ceiling. |
