Book Description

In a small town in Michigan, fifteen-year-old Sarah Cole is stuck spending the summer at her Aunt and Uncle’s with her sister, Lacey. She’s not happy with the situation until she befriends a girl named Jackie. The three girls stumble upon the ruthless murder of a reclusive neighborhood woman and what's worse? One of the officers investigating the crime believes the girls are responsible for her death.

Fearing that this officer will frame them for the murder, the girls organize their own detective squad. They become the Super Spies and start their own investigation. The Super Spies can’t understand why anyone would want to murder the “Cat Lady” until they start digging into her past and discover a horrible crime that happened thirty years ago. They uncover a connection between the two crimes and attempt to bring this information to the police, only to be reprimanded for meddling in the investigation. Not only are the girls upset by the admonition, but they also struggle with the fact that their exuberant investigating could provide a legal loophole allowing the killer to go free. Frustrated by this turn of events, the Super Spies realize it’s up to them to snare the Cat Lady killer.

Or die trying...

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to consider my book! I enjoyed writing it because it took me back to my own teen years and brought back many happy memories.

In my younger years I too, wanted to be a detective just like the lead character Sarah. In fact, my friends and I formed our own detective squad! I must say thinking back on those days bring back some of my best memories. While reminiscing , I came up with the idea of the Super Spies series and the first book, "The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer" was born.

I've just finished writing the second book in this series and I'm now going through the editing process. I'm really excited about the second one and it stars the same quirky teens.

Keep me on your radar because there's more to come!

About the Author

Lisa Orchard grew up loving books. Her debut novel “The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer,” is a suspenseful thriller about three young girls thrust into a situation and the choices they make. The setting is Harrisburg, a small town in Michigan, much like the town where Lisa grew up. Many of her characters’ adventures stem from her exploits as a young teen. After graduating from Central Michigan University with a Marketing Degree she spent many years in the insurance industry, pining to express her creative side. Deciding to stay home with her children gave her the opportunity to fol-low her dream and become a writer. She currently resides in Rockford Michigan with her husband, Steve, and two wonderful boys, Kyle and Ethan. Currently, she’s working on the second novel that stars the same quirky teens, and she hopes to turn the Super Spies into a series. When she’s not writing she enjoys spending time with her family, running, hiking, and reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer June 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A great YA murder mystery with quirky characters, surprises at many turns and fun through and through. It brought me back to my days of reading Hardy Boys and a few others in my young teen years (quite refreshing). Thank you for that Lisa :)

Sarah and her sister are visiting with their aunt and uncle for the Summer. Expecting a super boring time and getting everything but! Sarah and Lacey make a few friends, learn the lay of the land and all about the towns local weirdos to steer clear of. On a dare Sarah goes to the cat lady's house and rings the doorbell. After a few times of doing this with no result she peeks inside the house and what she sees shocks her. The three girls are now "The Super Spies" and they are out to solve the mystery of who would want to hurt "The Cat Lady". So many twists and turns come forth, but they only help them to find the culprit. The Super Spies are exactly what their name states... SUPER!

The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer by Lisa Orchards follows the story of Sarah's summer vacation in the small town of Harrisburg. Along with her sister, Lacey, they are staying at their Aunt and Uncle's home which they expect their summer days will be full of dull days. All that changes when Sarah meets Jackie. For fun, the two sisters and Jackie play a game of "Truth or Dare" with Sarah being dared to knock at the door of Mrs. Fedewa, the weird "Cat Lady". Their harmless game turns to danger when Sarah discovers the Cat Lady's lifeless body.

The girls get caught in the crossfire of suspects and Officer Klonsky firmly believes that they are responsible. In order to omit their names from the list of suspects, the girls set forth on a mission and perform their own investigation to solve the murder and get justice for Mr. Fedewa. Collectively they call themselves The Super Spies. Throughout their investigation, they reveal some dreadful and tragic secrets.

The tale presented a high-quality of suspense which was the highlight of the book. The suspense meter was turned up all the way as readers will find themselves having difficulties putting the book down. Lisa's writing created three very likable characters. The bond and friendship of Sarah and Jackie was sincere and natural. Although they've known one another for a short period of time, it felt like they were best friends for a long time. The story tells of a crime and thriller story but it also focuses on friendship and the lessons we learn in life. It takes the reader to an adventure filled with suspense with a plot that will have them on the edge of their seats, frantically wanting to see how the story concludes.
