If Not a Super Sub, Surely a Great One!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Super Sub (Paperback)
Considering that this is a 90 pg. book on such a broad topic, the authors did a great job of putting together both relevant advice and lesson plans for subs (gr. 1-6). The book is divided into 3 main parts: tools & advice, lesson plans in 8 subject areas,& a small section on time fillers. The lessons are very meaningful & easy to implement, and the advice is great for starters. While you still need to supplement this book w/ other activities & ideas (no 1 book can cover it all), it's definitely worth having in your collection!

Wonderful ideas for grades 1-6,
By A Customer
This review is from: Super Sub (Paperback)
As a brand new substitute teacher, I found GREAT ideas to use in a variety of classroom situations. Book covers academic and special (art, gym, etc.) classes. A few ideas are very easy to implement with minimum preparation and others require some foresight or a longer term sub assignment. Wonderful hands on ideas for grades 1-6.

BEST SUB BOOK OR SHALL I SAY TEACHING BOOK AROUND!,
By A Good Friend (Hawai'i) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Super Sub (Paperback)
This book has it all for new subs like me! It was written by a Mother/Daughter team who has taught for over 35 years. It has tons of things to do to make up for non-existent lesson plans and even a much needed Sub List Kit on what subs should pack in their briefcase daily. It provided great ideas and some tried and true examples. They had everything in there that you could think of and also some sample situations that you can learn a lot from. It is a well thought out book and organized very nicely with cute little illustrations. I purchased the Teacher's Bag of Tricks and Instant Success in the Classroom (the yellow book) as well and they were mainly full of lessons plans (that were so-so) or Sponge Activities (most of which needed to be reproduced). They didn't provide any examples or practical advice at all. I would say stick with this book and you will definitely have your classroom going places!!!

A Good Beginning,
By A Customer
This review is from: Super Sub (Paperback)
I feel this book is a good book for a beginning substitute teacher. There are a couple of problems though. One is that there are very few reproducibles. As a substitute I find worksheets that students can do without assistance more helpful. Although overall I think it is a pretty good book, I would supplement it with others.

Essential guide for substituting in the elementary grades.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Super Sub (Paperback)
I bought this book as guidance as a new substitute teacher in high school and intermediate school. Although there are ideas that are helpful to these years, this book would be most helpful to a substitue teacher in the lower grades.

This book includes many, many lesson ideas in every curriculum area as well as some useful advice for new sub's. I found it very helpful in preparing myself to enter the elementary classroom.
