Book Description

When life gives you lemons, kill zombies -- turns out lemon juice neutralizes the undead.
After a failed attempt at running away, best friends Nathan and Misty return home expecting to face angry parents. Instead, they discover the military has destroyed the bridges out of their rural town and everyone's fled--except a small horde of the living dead. The stress of flesh-eating zombies may be more than their already strained relationship can handle.

Even with the help of the town geek and lemonade-powered Super-Soakers, there's not enough time to squeeze their way out of this sticky mess. Unless the trio eradicates the zombie infestation, while avoiding the deadly zombie snot, the military will blow the town, and them, to pulp.

Their only shot is something with a lot more punch. Something like the Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb. But even if their friendship survives, there's another problem: Someone has to lure the undead into the trap.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great zombie book for the YA audience!!! September 9, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Want to save the world? Want to eradicate the living dead? There is a way to do it if you just have the tools, or in this case ingredients. head on over to your closest grocer and pick up everything you need to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Lemons.

Yes. You read that right.

Lemons.

You know how the old saying goes, when life hands you lemons, you squirt them at zombies. Wait, no, well, it was something like that.

Misty and Nate run away for a camping trip after being told they can no longer hang out with each other. On their return, their small town is a ghost town. There was no one to be found anywhere, oh - if only it could have stayed a ghost town, that may have been easier to deal with. Misty and Nate are faced with an adventure that no kid should have to go through alone. A fight for their lives ensues and what happens to them will really surprise you.

Finally a zombie book for the YA audience that has the perfect balance of creepy but not too much for the younger reader. It has great horror elements in the plot and loads of zombie action. This book is a great way to let your budding horror fan indulge while knowing the content will not be too "adult".

This book will catch your attention from the beginning and make you want to keep reading until the very end. Adults and YA audiences alike will have something they can enjoy with this book. The cover is amazing, the characters are vividly depicted, the heroism in the book is admirable, and the zombies are scary. This is coming out perfectly timed for the Halloween season, and I will be passing this onto my two daughters for their Halloween reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Braaaiiinnnsss! October 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
DISCLAIMER: I was given a free copy of this book for review purposes, but this did not affect my review or score in any way.

I've previously read and reviewed short stories by MJA Ware, and I've loved them all. This novel (which I think is a first for Mr. Ware) is gigantically better than his short stories, which I've mostly found to be near-perfect already! It's meant for kids and is definitely going to be something that they enjoy; however, it may still be an entertaining read for some adults, too, because it is that good. It does have some definite violence and scares in it, though, so parents may wish to preview it before letting anyone under 10 read it. Otherwise, the humor should outweigh any terror and should keep the reader laughing the entire time!

The basic story is that friends Nathan and Misty run away from home to go camping for a few days after their parents cancel their annual camping trip. They don't last very long, unfortunately, and are on their way home-and to their punishments-rather quickly. They soon find out that being grounded is the least of their worries as the entire town seems to have either vanished are turned into zombies. All roads leading out of town are either destroyed or blocked and the government is about to destroy the town, too! It's up to Misty and Nathan to stay safe from zombies while also trying to either escape the town or get the aid of the government!

Unlike some of MJA Ware's previous short stories, the development in his novel is excellent. I don't think he left a single thing untold by the end of the book; everything had been explained. He also engaged my emotions throughout the tale. I found sadness, terror, humor, and adventure all interwoven throughout the story. It was quite an excellent read.

Like I said before, there is violence in this story. Nathan and Misty kill zombies on a regular basis, and this process is explained without getting gory or gross. I think the entire story is interpreted perfectly on a kid's level, giving violence in the story to incorporate action without being over-the-top disgusting. There is also some touches of romance in the book, which may entice some girls to read the story, as well; but nothing gets serious or is even really developed.

The entire book is a joy to read...and it's hard to put down, too! I really was drawn into finding out what was going to happen to Misty and Nathan and the overtaken town. The humor was excellent as was the light horror, and I absolutely loved every second of reading it. I would definitely recommend it to kids who enjoy these kind of stories, although parents should be aware that violence could be an issue here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Clean Fun February 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Today's horror is all about pushing the envelope to see what you can get away with. A salting of curses, with a peppering of gratuitous violence, a dash of nudity and a smattering of gore. MJA Ware breaks all the 'new' conventions and brings us a zombie tale true to horror's original roots. This book is a tween-teen safe read that is fun for parents and reminds us of why we used to love horror movies in the traditional sense. More books like these are needed!
