3.0 out of 5 stars Good console, bad bundle
The Gamecube is a great system, but this bundle is sorely lacking.more than just buying a Gamecube, you get Mario Sunshine and and an itty bitty memory card that holds only 500k (i.e. 1/16th what other system's memory cards hold).

If you play any sports games at all, or game more than occasionally, you will be drop-kicking the tiny included girly-man memory card quite...

Sorry for the PS2. I like to see how is it going to top this deal. XBOX is offering more games but nothing else. So come on down and check this out. I am telling you will regret it, if you don't purchase this bundle. Look at all the money you are saving.

4.0 out of 5 stars The system and the game is awesome!!, December 26, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: SuperMario Sunshine Gamecube Bundle (Video Game)
Ok, just to let everybody who reads this know, I am NOT a Nintendo freak. In fact I have a PS1 & PS2 also. But anyway this pack is great. You get the system (obviously including 1 controller)[$$] Mario Sunshine which is about ten times better than Luigi's Mansion [$$] and a Gamecube 59 Memory Card [$$] which would normally equal [$$$] dollars for only [$$]. The gamecube system is probably the most criticized of all systems just because it doesn't have a DVD player and has more child-friendly games. But the critics are wrong. If you want a DVD player, buy a DVD player. It's a GAMING SYSTEM not a DVD player. It has outstanding graphics great Nintendo and Sega titles, along with remarkably tiny game disks. As for Mario Sunshine, this game will keep all gaming fans from age 7-77 entertained. Now on to the reason why I only gave this bundle a **** rating. The memory card. This is the one bad apple that spoils the bunch. If you actually play your system then you'll probably get more than 1 game. Well this memory card is EXACTLY like a PS1 memory card. It judges the amount saved by blocks. That's why they call it memory card 59 because it has 59 blocks. Now thats all fine and dandy, but there's only one problem... most games take up more than 59 blocks in 1 SAVE. That's why I suggest with the purchase of this pack you also get either another memory card 59 or the new 251 memory card. Otherwise this is a great deal for a great system. Before I leave you alone I just have to say one thing to you detail nuts out there. WHO CARES WHAT COLOR THE SYSTEM IS. I mean its a good deal who cares if its purple. A color won't change the way the system plays. But anyway I strongly suggest you buy this system. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nintendo delivers once again, November 27, 2002

The Nintendo Gamecube is not the flashiest system on the market, but all style and no substance is a poor investment indeed. Despite its small stature the gamecube displays impressive graphics and is backed by a steadily growing supply of quality games. Of course no gaming icon is bigger than Mario, and for good reason. Super Mario Sunshine is an incredibly enjoyable experience for gamers of all ages. (And I do mean all ages, it packs the light hearted touches of the previous games in the series, but is not without its challenge for serious gamers) All in all, the gamecube is a fine gaming system that a person would be hard pressed to go wrong with, and Mario Sunshine is an excellent game to showcase the beauty of the system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bigger Isn't Always Better, April 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: SuperMario Sunshine Gamecube Bundle (Video Game)
The Nintendo Gamecube is a great game console. Here is some information to help you decide whether you want this console or not. Just read the capitalized print if you want a gist of what to expect from the Gamecube. If you want more information please feel free to read the whole thing.

PROS:

-THE GAMECUBE IS CAPABLE OF GRAPHICS JUST AS GREAT AS THE OTHER CONSOLES. Just because the Xbox console is supposedly capable of making better graphics than both the PS2 and GCN does not mean that the Xbox's games have better graphics. People keep saying that the Xbox is the console that has the top games graphically but looking at all of the game consoles best graphical games there does not really seem to be a difference. It all depends on how much effort the development team puts into the graphics. Each game console has at least five games that really stand out graphically, so each console is really pretty equal in regard to graphics.
NOTE: You might have noticed that when most of the Xbox fans want to compare the Xbox's graphics, they talk about comparing Splinter Cell on all of the machines. Splinter Cell originated on Xbox and was ported to the PS2 and the GCN. OF COURSE the original Splinter Cell looks better! The others are ports! The developers did not spend enough time porting as great quality graphics on the other machines, which is generally what happens with ports.

-IT IS THE MOST AFFORDABLE SYSTEM. (You can get it for $150 with a free game compared to $200 without a game).

-IT IS NOT JUST A "KID'S CONSOLE." People just say that because it has a lot of E rated games. Guess what, a good game is a good game. ESRB ratings are not the way to judge a system. Just because you like quality games that are rated E does not mean that you are a kid. There are a lot of Mature and Teen rated games too. Actually, some of the Gamecube's best games are rated Teen and Mature. Take for example Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, and of course, Resident Evil.

-SPECIAL GBA FEATURES. If you have a Game Boy Advance you can link it up to the Gamecube for some very cool features.

-THIS IS A GREAT FAMILY GAME CONSOLE. There is something for everyone. The Gamecube has a great variety of games, from adventure, to action, to racing, etc. There are many different genres and age ratings. There are actually some very good Mature and Teen rated games on the system.
JUST TO COMPARE: Playstation 2 has a wonderful variety of games too, but is does not have as many highly rated games that kids and adults can both play. Xbox's best games are all action/shooter games and sports games. There is nothing wrong with that, but it does not have a lot of variety and is definitely not a system that kids should be playing.

-THE GAMECUBE HAS:
-MARIO (the coolest and most addictive platform game ever)
-METROID PRIME (a first person adventure game with gorgeous graphics and exciting
gameplay)
-THE LEGEND OF ZELDA (Yeah, the graphics might look strange, but once you play the game, you will see why they used cel-shading. It is a very fun and gorgeous game with heat effects and other small touches that are sure to make you smile. My favorite series of all time and Nintendo did not disappoint.)
-ETERNAL DARKNESS (A creepy and beautiful game that has a very well done plot. You have to play it more and more just to figure out what strange things will happen next.)
-It also has a whole lot of other great games that you should check out too.

-THE CONTROLLER IS THE MOST COMFORTABLE OUT OF ALL OF THE SYTEMS. I have tried all of the other systems controllers and this one fits my hands just perfectly.

-IT IS VERY COMPACT SO IT IS EASY TO CARRY AROUND. Don't think that just because it is small does not mean it is powerful.

-IT DOES NOT HAVE A DVD PLAYER, SO YOU CAN SAVE MONEY. Most of you probably already have a DVD player, but if you don't and want a cheap one, this is a con.

CONS:

IT DOES NOT HAVE A LOT OF ONLINE GAMES, AT LEAST FOR NOW.

IT ONLY HAS A FEW RPGS at the moment but a lot of creative RPGs are in development right now so there will be a lot soon.

-IT DOES NOT HAVE A DVD PLAYER. For those of you who need a DVD player and don't care what type of quality it is this might be a problem. It is not a problem for me because I really only watch DVDs on our best television with very good DVD player. The other systems' DVD players work fine as far as I know, but keep in mind they are NOT high quality DVD players.

Overall, I have been very happy with my Gamecube's performance. I did not rate it five stars only because I wish Nintendo would get more into online gaming and promote themselves more. Other than that I love the Nintendo Gamecube and I hope you support Nintendo and buy one for yourself and your family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great package deal, April 19, 2003
By

This review is from: SuperMario Sunshine Gamecube Bundle (Video Game)
Remember the good old days when the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Sega Genesis all came bundled with a game ready for play? Yeah, it seriously de-valued that one game when you tried to trade it in later in life (anyone ever successfully sell off a Mario World cartridge?) but at least you didn't have to shell out more money just to be able to use your system.

That, in my opinion, is what makes Nintendo's current marketing strategy so great. Chalk it up to slightly slumping sales behind PS2 and X-Box, but I love not only have a game pre-bundled, but also a memory card so I can save my progress. The lack of such a deal was what kept me from getting any of the previous generation systems till almost the end of their life span. And com'on, if you're buying a Nintendo system, you *have* to get the flagship Mario game. Even if it's not quite as revolutionary as Mario 64 was, it's still pure fun, and actively demonstrates what the new system is capable of while saving the more jaw-dropping stuff for games to come. Besides, if you really don't want Mario, there are other packages with games such as Metroid, Resident Evil 0, and Star Fox (though you lose the memory card). It's a sweet deal.

Am I going to try to convince you that Gamecube is the system to buy above PS2 and X-Box? No. Chances are you've already made up your mind, and I'll even admit that the PS2 has a wider selection of games, and X-Box is growing in popularity (even if gamers know its only fueling the Microsoft giant). However, Nintendo's always been the home of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and now Sonic, characters you know you want to revisit. And is there anything wrong with targeting the "younger" audience? While PS2 and X-Box fight for the older demographic, Nintendo practically corners the market on the younger one. Plus, nomatter how "kiddie" the system is purported to be, when it does release mature titles, such as Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, it knocks them out of the ballpark. Finally, you gotta give Nintendo credit: they're working with less than half the capacity of PS2 and X-Box discs, yet they're churning out games just as good or better-looking.

Whether you're looking for your first next gen console or have the extra cash for a second one, the current Gamecube package is a great buy. Nintendo might not be king anymore, but that doesn't mean it doesn't know what its doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars GameCube, May 5, 2003

I am relatively new to console gaming. I've been using my Mac for most gaming. I recently came across some extra money and decided to get a console. The decision to get a GameCube was pretty simple. Nintendo has been in the console business longer than the other two. They have the past performance. I don't rely on Micro$oft for anything. I'm certainly not going to spend my spare time on one of their products.

As far as the cube itself, I couldn't be happier. The graphics are great, the system is easy to use. For the amount of gaming I do (three to five hours a week) it's perfect. I like that's it's built for four players. I would definatly recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best $... I've spent in a long time., February 26, 2003
This review is from: SuperMario Sunshine Gamecube Bundle (Video Game)
For months, I contemplated what system I should buy: PS2, XBos, or GC. I've played many games on the PS2, and in my opinion, they all lacked one thing: re-playability value (is that even a word?). I'd play a game, and tire of it after a few hours. This was true for every PS2 game I played except Vice-City. Then there was the XBox. I've played a few XBox games, and they just didn't interest me. Like the PS2 games, I lost interest after a short while. The XBox's bulky controller didn't help matters.

When I purchased my GC, I have to admit, I'd never played a GC game. Ever. I purchased it based on one reason: It's made by Nintendo. I've been a gamer since 1985 when Nintendo's first console came out, and I've never been dissatisfied with Nintendo since then. Their games have excellent replay value, and they tend to focus more on story depth and immersion into the game than do games for other consoles. So far, I only have one game, the game that came with this bundle. And every day, I look forward to getting home from work to play. Yes, it's a kid's game. Yes, it's childish. But who cares? It's fun. Tonight, I plan to purchase Metroid Prime. I fear that game will leave me _really_ hooked on my new GC.

I have full faith in my new GC. I'm confident that like Nintendo's systems of the past, it will provide me with years of enjoyment.

Nintendo has always been the name in video games. Super high quality with super high quality products. They are the leaders of the video game industry. The great Nintendo Gamecube is now packaged with a memory card to save data on all games and one of the star titles. This is truly a great game with Miyamato(Head developer) magic and a dose of nintendo quality.

Absolutely fabulous system. It has great graphics and the game included was very fun. If you can get this system, do so right away. Or if Mario isn't your thing then they have a great Zelda bundle also. Overall great system.
