1.0 out of 5 stars No More Alpha Rolls
I dislike the concept of using force on a dog, especially a puppy. This book still preaches the outdated Alpha Roll, which teaches a dog to use force and is based on the Wolf Pack model. Domesticated dogs aren't wolves, and would you use everything a wolf uses? Does that mean you'd feed your dog by eating first, then regurgitating so the puppy can eat? Nonsense.

This review is from: SuperPuppy:How to Raise the Best Dog You'll Ever Have! (Paperback)
I have recently purchased several puppy training books and have been somewhat disappointed with them. While still searching for answers this book was recommended to me by my puppies breeder so I decided to give it a try. You should however order this with the knowledge that it is more of a pamphlet rather then a book and there are no photos. There are some illistrations but nothing that my child couldn't do. It has a yellow cardstock cover and 39 pages of information stapled to the cardstock to bind it. If you are looking for a flashy book this is not it. This book however had the best information I have found and cost far less then the other books I have purchased. It is not specific to breed but with the exercises he offers it does not need to be. I have been "testing" this book on my four month old puppy and have already noticed a big change even though I've only been using the ideas for three days. I personally believe the information is well worth the cover price even if the initial appearance of the book is not.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best puppy raising guide out there., September 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: SuperPuppy:How to Raise the Best Dog You'll Ever Have! (Paperback)
This book deals with the basic information every new puppy owner should have. It explains clearly what you need to do, why you need to do it, and how to do it. It's easy to read and it's easy to look up individual sections. It should go home with every new puppy! I speak from some experience, having used this book to raise several puppies over the years. I have also been a long time puppy instructor with our local dog club and have recommended it. Several of our local veterinarians also enthusiastically provide the book to new puppy owners.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Super book for new pup owners and breeders too!, August 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: SuperPuppy:How to Raise the Best Dog You'll Ever Have! (Paperback)
I was going to write my own puppy raising manual until a friend sent me this book. It covered all the information I want a new puppy owner or adopter of a rescue dog to know about dealing with all the basics of fitting a new dog into their home. It includes preventing and solving problems in an easy to read and follow manner using humane training techniques. No need to spend hours reading to get the information you need to help with your pup.Even a ten year old can, with a little help, learn how to turn a pup into a great best friend! Simply the best book I have found on the subject! And breeders it makes a FABULOUS addition to your puppy pack!

I have never been good at dog training, but this book made sense and actually works. You notice improvement very quickly which is what the master likes to see. I've purchased for friends and relatives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Puppy -How to raise the best dog you'll ever have, March 2, 2006

We used the information in this book to raise and train our chocolate lab 13 years ago. We had never raised a dog and knew nothing about dog behavior or how to train a dog. Our vet recommended this book and it is excellent. The instructions are easy to understand and the author explains why dogs act the way they do and the reasoning behind the training. It's only 40 pages and isn't filled with alot of fluff - just the information you need to know.

My wife and I read this book prior to getting our new puppy, a black Lab retriever. There were many very useful suggestions, such as having a place that she could always go to to feel safe (a portable dog carrier kennel) and to have a blanket inside with all the smells from her previous litter-home to help facilitate the transition. We have bought this book for many friends who were getting new puppies.

I first used this book 15 years ago. I recently lost two super canine companions -- the tips from this book helped me to raise them, especially with my husky/great pyrenees mix. (YES THE BOOK IS THAT OLD). Now I have two puppies and I couldn't find my copy - I have lent it out to many people over the years. I'm glad it's still in publication.

I would recommend this pamphlet for any new puppy owner - and yes it is a pamphlet, not a true book. I own many, many books on dog and puppy training, but was still stumped regarding aspects of one particular puppy's behavior.

The SuperPuppy exercises are clearly explained, humane, easy to do, and essential for pack leadership, especially with assertive puppies.

I deducted one star because I think the author should publish a similar product, call it "Guide for New Owners" or something like that, and up the production values while keeping the price the same. Then he should publish a book that combines "SuperPuppy" and "SuperPuppy Goes to Puppy Class", again with better production values.

He's got a great product here for developing a good relationship between dog and owner. It just isn't packaged as well as it easily could be, which probably needlessly turns off some buyers from accessing the great content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clear and specific, April 21, 2008
This review is from: SuperPuppy:How to Raise the Best Dog You'll Ever Have! (Paperback)

It was recommended by my vet. It is very useful and practical. Small, you can take it everywhere and it only contains what you really need to know if you want your puppy to behave and by happy. I highly recommended it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for first time puppy owners, January 1, 2008
This review is from: SuperPuppy:How to Raise the Best Dog You'll Ever Have! (Paperback)
I give a copy of Super Puppy to first time puppy owners. It has some sound advice but is not so long or technical that owners will be turned off by it.
