Out of the box the device did not work with the SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB SDHC UHS-1 card (95 MB/s). However, as of June 29, 2012 there is a firmware update available on Savio's website (go to saviotek.com and click the Support tab at the top-right). I downloaded and ran this, and it informed me I had firmware version 0543, not the latest 0561. Upon attempting an update in Windows 7, the update utility crashed. The device was not bricked, but was also not updated. I was able to apply the firmware update successfully in Windows XP in a VM. Minus one star for the awful firmware upgrade experience.

After applying the update, I tested the device with three different cards, the aforementioned SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB SDHC UHS-1 card, a SanDisk 16 GB Extreme III CompactFlash card, and a Transcend 16 GB class 6 SDHC card. The device could read both CompactFlash and SDHC simultaneously. My machine is an HP dv8t with 8 GB RAM, an Intel quad core i7, and a Startech USB 3.0 ExpressCard. I measured sequential read and write rates using CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1c x64 over both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. Results follow.

USB 3.0, UHS-1 SDHC: 64 MB/s read, 60 MB/s write
USB 2.

This is a slow card reader. I just replaced it with the Kingston FCR-HS3 and very happy I did. I didnt realize how terribly slow this was. It honestly is no faster than a USB 2.0. I havent had any reliability issues, but very slow.

Hmm, it's a lot larger than I expected. Comes with a long cord which is convenient some of the time, but to use with my laptop on my very small desk or for travel it's a bit inconvenient.

I bought an adapter somewhere else that took a while to source because I didn't know what you call the end that goes to this card reader. It was called, "USB 3.0 Plug Adapter: Type-A Male to Micro B Male". The whole rig is not a bit fragile and extends out too far from the USB port on my laptop *sigh*. I may be able to source a 90º USB3.0 port adapter for a few more bucks.... Life in the Valley vs. Life in the Hills.

On the plus side, the download speeds from my cards to even slow computers are much faster than any other card readers I've used to date. I'm not sure if the transfer rate fully saturates the USB 3.0 spec, but I'm seeing some real benefit from my very fast CF and SDXC cards. AFAIK, no data transfer errors yet. I would recommend this reader if the cable works for you or if you need the adapter (USB3 male to Micro B male) and are willing to shell out more than half again the price to get one....

This is a quality built product all around for its price. Comes nicely packaged in a blister pack. I mainly bought this card reader for its speed. my original usb 2.0 card reader was only pulling images off my cf card at about 800kb/sec. this card reader with a 60mb/sec UDMA cf card pulls images off at a steady 50mb/sec! i am totally satisfied! i was also concerned that the pins inside the reader would be of the easily-bent type but the ones here are quality too! loving this product!
