music for the soul of modern man, and even then some..., February 13, 2006
This review is from: Superbad: The Soul of the City (Audio CD)
really really nice set of 70s urban soul. very tasteful. One of the best compilation collections I own. Just has a great groove feel with several songs offering meaningful lyrics about life's struggles that everyone, in any era, can relate to.

A triumph of urban soul, November 6, 2003
This review is from: Superbad: The Soul of the City (Audio CD)
This TIME magizine compilation is a little known jem of a CD. It features many of the best songs to come out of the Blaxploitaion films of the 1970's, with other tunes from the era that address themes of urban life or Black empowerment. Many of the stars of 1970's soul make an apperance here filling the album with a theme of striving against long odds. Great writing, excellent voices, and lots of impressive "Philly Soul" production work make these songs standouts from a great period. An excellent introduction to early '70's MOTOWN and the "Philly Soul" sound.
