Excellent motorcycle racing game. The best ever!,
By Team Steinert (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Superbike 2001 (CD-ROM)
If you are a fan of World Superbikes, or simply want a great racer, you can't go wrong with this one. It's the HIGHEST RATED RACING GAME on ...An incredible amount of effort must have gone into this game, and it shows. Not only is it the best motorcycle game I have ever played, it's one of the best racing games. You can configure the difficulty to suit anyone's tastes, from hardcore simulation to an arcade blast. The graphics are spectacular, and as a fan of World Suberbike Racing, I can say the bikes, tracks and leathers are near spot on. On my GeForce2 video card, the race "replays" almost look like TV coverage of a real race! I owned World Superbikes, but passed on Superbike 2000 because the demo didn't play well (in my opinion). After playing the demo of Superbike 2001, I hopped on my motorcycle and raced to the store to buy a copy. I have seen video footage of most of the tracks in the game, and they are very accurate ... There's a Championship mode, as well a a Quick Race option. The game ran great on the 2 PCs I have tested it on, and even played OK on my laptop. If only there was an online multiplayer option (there is LAN play)... By the way: If you need a great joypad, try the Interact Hammerhead FX! I read a great review of this pad ... and I'm glad I bought it. It is a close copy of the excellent PlayStation Dual-Shock pad, and works with Game or USB ports. The great thing for racing games like Superbike 2001 is that you can use one analog stick for steering (L-R), and the other for Gas/Brakes (U-D), but the game sees them as one stick which makes configuration a breeze! It's a huge improvement over playing with a digital pad or even one analog stick. The included software works great, and the pad is very comfortable. The PSX pad has both shoulder buttons stacked, while this pad places the lower shoulder buttons a little farther under the pad. This is actually better, and works very well in shooters like Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2, in my opinion. Keep the rubber side down!

Great, great, great!,
This review is from: Superbike 2001 (CD-ROM)
General/Summary: All around, an excellent simulation of the hair-raising, physics-defying world of rice and ravioli racers. I've never been a huge fan of scooter racing, but, having too many friends who ARE, I picked this up on a lark. Glad I did, as this is one of the most enjoyable game/simulations available. Gameplay: Gameplay is magnificent, ranging from the simple to the complex. Quick entry into the game through the novice levels is a joy, and allows even the most jaded ignorer-of-manuals a quick thrill and an amazing sense of speed. The higher-realism levels create a terrifying sense that you're out of control, something (I've been told) common to the sport itself. You'll feel as though you're about to die, and love every moment of it. A recommendation: I use a Logitech Wingman Force Feedback joystick, as the similarities to piloting a plane make it a very, very responsive controller. Although the Force Feedback modeling could be better, it adds much to the experience. The use of the joystick makes the game much, much more manageable than a gamepad (even the Freestyle Pro). Graphics: Excellent. It's difficult to actually SEE much at the speeds modeled, but those things you see are very, very realistic. I've seen few games with such an immersive environment. A note: a prior reviewer expressed dismay that a first-person view was not available. It is. You are free to change among first and third-person points of view. The first-person is by far the most terrifying, but console fans will appreciate the third-person as well. Sound: Ok. The bikes whine, but there's little other sound to notice, other than the occasional crowd roar (passing the grandstands) and the blather of the color commentator after a crash. All I would really expect is there: wind in your ears and the scream of a 1000cc bike.

A motorcycle game that finally works like a motorcycle,
By A Customer

This game is amazing in the details. The physics are configurable and for the most part believable. And don't underestimate the added fun of being able to shake your fist at another gamer after passing him, or pulling up a victory wheelie. Or listening to the announcer telling the crowd your opponent just crashed. If I had to nitpick, I'd say this. I wish they separated the physics of the front and rear wheels more. The bike tends to operate as a unit. I'd like the fun of operating the brakes independently, locking up the rear wheel to back it into a turn, or doing stoppies or burnouts. And any attempt to spin the wheel to steer out of a turn leads to a magnificent crash. Otherwise, great job!

The BEST Superbike game ever!!,
This review is from: Superbike 2001 (CD-ROM)
I don't usually say this, but this game is simply awesome! The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, and I don't even have a really fast computer. This is definetly hands down the best superbike related game ever, and I can say this cause I have played most of them. Where to start. The gameplay is perfect. Everything is easy to control, and you can edit any aspect of the controls you wish, if the defaults aren't to your liking. My most favorite part of this game is the rider perspectives, everything from the standard arcade (behind the rider view), to this wicked first person view, where your eyes dip behind the glass at speed, and raise up when you slow down, how cool is that :) Great job EA did with this release. If you were thinking about getting this, get out there and grab it!

Woah, what a great game!!,

I read a reiview in the Mac addict magazine that came out recently. They did an article on motorcyle racing, and they came to the same conclusion I have come too. Even though there are newer games out for superbike racing, this game is the best even though it is 2 years old. It has enough riders and bikes as well as courses to keep you going for a while. The graphics are excellent for a game that came out 2 years ago, and can still rival games that just came out. Also when paired with the Gravis Eliminator Gamepad Pro USB controller, it hard to stop playing. It provides an array of racing views ranging from 1st person to 3rd person. If you are into superbike racing or racing in general you can't go wrong. However, I don't reccomend buying this game for 19.99. I recommend searching for "Racing Mania 2" The Racing Mania 2 package comes with not only this game, but 3 other super racing games. Need for speed hot persuit, Need for speed Porsche unleased, and Nascar 2000. All these games are excellent and the package costs 19.99. 3 more games for the same price. You can't really go wrong.

Pretty much PERFECT. :),
This review is from: Superbike 2001 (CD-ROM)
I am a game developer and motorcycle rider, and I have to say, EASports you guys nailed this. Even without a proper motorcycle interface, EASports gives us something which is amazingly real..from the feel of speed, the changing rider position on the bike, the well done first person view where your head stays level with the road (perfect) and of course, it is the only perspective I will play. If EA had only done a 3rd person view, I'd consider this a silly console game. They thought of everything..the tracks are amazing and beautiful..the riders are real, even tho they pegged Ben Bostrom as a loser in most races (maybe he was last year) but man this year, he is unstoppable. I also love that this game does not kill gameplay by insisting on *too much* realism..what is real about a keyboard interface? Exactly. :) Yes, riding a motorcycle for real is much more intuitive than pressing keys, so EA has struck a great balance with the way the keys work, even going so far as to let you configure press and release times (so you don't look or behave like a drunken idiot with those repeated keypresses!). I am also VERY thankful for customizable hotkeys, tho I rarely would play a game that would not let me customize my keys... The brilliant EA Sports people have also built in highly detailed bikes (even a Bimota!) and I love the V-twin sound they captured which is different from an inline 4. The director's replay of the race is awesome too...and again, I appreciate the hotkeys here..I can change views with the num pag without a big interface on the screen. Just to let you know how good this is...I played the demo over and over and over...my girlfriend bought this from EA sports directly for my birthday, .... and I LOVE it! BUY IT!! It is the best PC motorcycle racing sim\game out there. Bar none.

I can't believe that anybody that has played this game could give it less than 5 stars!First off, let me start by saying this is the best video game that I have ever played. It gets your heart racing soooo fast. The action and depth are so intense. The animations.... You know, I just can't describe the experience. Play it yourself. Use a machine with horsepower, and a steering wheel. You'll be fixated! I promise. It's an arcade racer if you want that, or realistic as can be! The slow-mo instant replay is a blast too! When you see a replay of when you slipped off the track into the grass, and you see the specks of grass attach to your tires, the expression and body movement of your rider.... You'll be blown away! Good job EA!

IT DOES RUN IN XP!,

I have Windows XP home. I have the latest 256 MB PCI-express ATI video card. I have a 3.2 GHZ pentium processor. I have a very high resolution monitor. I installed SUPERBIKE 2001. It ran without a hitch. Never a problem. The one i have is even the older version before the XP updated one. If your video card is not supporting this game, go get the drivers for your video card from the makers website! Just update your computer. That usually does it. Have fun. This game is really great. A little on the tough side. But, quality all the way through. It easily stands up to current cycling games. It's still one of the top 5 best racing sims in my book. ENJOY!

How does it run on XP,

I had the original SBK game which ran fine of a Win 95 PC. I later tried to run this on a new PC running windows XP and it failed to operate. I then purchased a second copy of the game (SBK 2001)which stated that it ran on XP but I still found that it did not recongise the video. Has anyone else managed to get this game operating on XP. I even contacted EA Sport (twice) but they failed to reply.
