2.0 out of 5 stars Very little meat, August 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Supercharge MFC: GUI Customization with Pseudo- Multiple Inheritance with CDROM (Paperback)
I was looking forward to reading this book, but ended up being disappointed. The author has taken some interesting ideas (and code) from Paul DiLascia's work in MSJ and added one useful extension (message reflection.)

There are hundreds of pages of boilerplate code, and the previous reviewer's comments about whitespace and font size are accurate. (For example, there are 78 straight pages, each of which displays listings of 4 methods whose entire body consists of "return FALSE;"!)

In general, I think the book's content, which is admittedly too long and complex for a magazine article, would have made for a good chapter in a book which compiled programming ideas from different authors (similar to Visual C++ Master Class).

Well, in the quote given in the front page of the book it tell exactly where the author stands in society. It if from Willian Ward about teachers - and this author is below the mediocre level.

The book itself rates decently if it weighed in at half the pages and price. Instead, it's oversized fonts and constant complete listing of every line of code makes this book little more meaty that your typical trashy romance novel. It gets worse as the author uses every trick in the book to extend the whitespace of the code - even to the point of multiple returns after comments.

The book is best used as a doorstop.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dictionary, August 9, 2001

This book reminds me of a graduate professor who is knowledageable but doesn't know how to teach. He walks in a classroom, puts a bunch of codes on an overhead projector and leaves.

Yes, it's for advanced readers but also for those who like to read a dictionary.
