5.0 out of 5 stars SUPER-HEAVY SUPER-METAL, July 9, 2003
By
This review is from: Supercoven (Audio CD)
For all of the hype surrounding nu-metal and pop metal success these days, it's nice to see a REAL metal band still plugging away. These two tracks contain more real music and emotion than a 1000 Linkin Parks. Supercoven is the most balls-out, heavy, HEAVY doomrock you are ever likely to hear. The title track, clocking in just under 14 minutes, and it's b-side, "Burnout", coming in over 18 minutes long, leave you with ample time to load your bong and sit back and let the sonic pummelling begin. As doomrock goes, this is the high point of the genre.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good E.P. with some memorable moments., June 28, 2004
This review is from: Supercoven (Audio CD)
Electric Wizard is my favorite band. They write some killer songs, they have some great riffs, and of course, the songs are strectched out to infinity. So, I decided to get this E.P. last. I heard it was good, but not great.

Track 1, Supercoven, is the best thing on the album. 13 minutes of pure doom with a weird echoed guitar in the beginning. The riffs are really good, and the playing is top notch. Jus's singing is really strong in this song.

Track 2, Burnout, on the other hand, didn't do it for me. IT started out real good, then about 6 minutes, it starts to get really boring. I was hoping for a slower, more doomy section, but it just turned into a noise-fest. It gets old after a while.

Track 3, Wizards Of Gore, is an interesting one. Recorded in 1993, it shows the band before they got a record deal. It's good for a histroical note, but it sounds too much like Saint Vitus, which I never liked. There is the riff from Return Trip in there, however. That's ok.

Track 4, Electric Wizard (live), is the other good song. IT is a live version done in Holland in 1998. It sounds rawer, and has more of a Come My Fanatics sound to it. It really shows the power of the Wizard live.

This E.P. has about 2 good songs. So, if you're into what Electric Wizard sounded like before the 1st album, or if you're into Saint Vitus, check it out. For diehard fans only.

4.0 out of 5 stars Electric Wizard - 'Supercoven' 2-track EP (Bad Acid), March 18, 2004
This review is from: Supercoven (Audio CD)
I've always dug this 2-track extended CD single as much as any other Electric Wizard release.Mostly because of the twenty minute epic "Burnout" which sounds a bit like Monster Magnet doing a triple dose of valium. It's bloody fantastic! Then we get the twelve minute title track "Supercoven" which sounds like it could easily be a long lost in a subterranean vault Sabbath cut.Hey,you can never be to sure.At one time,I did CD reviews for the label Bad Acid that put out a couple of well written issues.
