Grade 4-6. Supergiants is full of new discoveries about some of the largest land creatures ever to live on Earth. These huge dinosaurs are all sauropods (dinosaurs similar in looks to what used to be called the Brontosaurus?now known as Apatosaurus). New discoveries keep revealing bigger and bigger animals: Supersaurus reached a length of 150 feet, while Seismosaurus grew to 170 feet long, and the latest discovery, a sauropod called Argentinosaurus, had vertebrae five feet high. Peters's illustrations create a sense of drama, and despite some ineptitudes in depicting dinosaur anatomy (particularly legs), they seem realistic. This well-organized book makes it easy for kids to find information about specific dinosaurs (facts are highlighted by sidebars) as well as read up on the latest theories and discoveries.
