The Threebooted Legion Focuses on Characters,

The fourth in a series of comics collecting the adventure of the third version ("threebooted") of the Legion of Super-Heroes, this book is a bit of an outlier from the previous books. Most of the previous three books in the series focused on sweeping plots and epic adventures. The comics in this collection placed a bit more emphasis on character development. This has its strengths and weaknesses. The Legion team also did not allow Supergirl, who joined the Legion in the last book, to dominate the narrative. Besides setting the stage for the new great epic adventure, "Adult Eduction" also features a number of separate tales including a nice homage to previous versions of the Legion. The threebooted Legion lasted 50 issues and there was a great deal of promise in the first four collections. This book serves as the halfway point in the series. The threebooted Legion was different, perhaps too different, than the previous two versions of the group. While not as strong as its defenders maintain, it is nowhere near as bad as its critics insist it is. There was a good deal of potential here and some interesting ideas. I'm curious to see how the second half of the series went.

The Legion of Superheroes are super-powered teens united to protect the 31st Century. In this book they are joined by Supergirl and confront an emerging threat.After being turned off by the unlikeable characters in the last book I had low hopes going into this one. But it was a huge improvement over the last book and got me interested in continuing. Author Mark Waid wisely backed away from his tiresome 'Eat it grandpa' youth rebellion theme and resolved Supergirl's insistence that this was all a dream, instead the focus is on a new alien threat and a new group known as the Wanderers. Initially they seem to be transparent villains but it's soon clear there's more going on. This book is a lot of set up and damage control but it's a good read and gave me new hope for this version of the Legion.
