4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but has some draw backs, October 5, 2001
By
Lys "twizlycrunkette" (columbus, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Superhero (Audio CD)
I figured I'd give u the track by track, it's easier than overall album.

1) Prelude- Kinda boring in my opinion, but I'm not a prelude person. It gets better

2) When You Wanna Come- Good, but not the best. It has those kinda corny WHAT! lyrics at points, but they're so catchy and the beat just gets it stuck in your head. Ex: "Let me be your Tarzan swinging from a tree, tripple w dot superhero dot me...." just try to not sing it after u heard it a few times!

3) What's It Gonna Be- It's okay, nice beat, but the vocals sound a little slow for it. You'll wanna dance.

4) My Kinda Girl- OH MY GOOD! This is my all time favorite song on the cd! It's duet with justin Timberlake, and surprisingly it works! Their voices are perfect together! It starts off with a little harmonizing and it continues through it. And it's upbeat, really surprising because most of his best are ballads! This song has great vocals, and outstanding lyrics, this album is worth getting just for that song. I just can resist typing the lyrics now "When you talk; I hang on every word you say. When you move; your like the breeze on a summer day. When you smile; the sky turns from gray to blue. That's what you do." and the chorus! "And you're the kinda girl i think of, and you'rr the kinda girl I dream about. My heart is telling me i need you in my world. 'Cause you're my kinda lady, you're my kinda girl." I love it!

5) Love Of My Life- You've all heard it, I'm not even going to bother.

6) Whatever You Want- Another catchy song. This one is actually about letting the girl take control 'cause "It's not about me, it's whatever you like" Go Brian!

7) Everything- Really sweet ballad. Brian's the best at these! Gotta love it.

8) Get Over You- Best ballad on the cd! My second favorite! It's so sweet! As you can tell, it's about a break-up! Really sweet lyrics. I love when he sings "My pride always get's in the way... I lied. I should've begged you to stay. It may take till forever is through, to get over you" Listen to it, you'll see what I mean!

9) Superhero- Title song, but one of the album's worst. Cool beat, but it gets old fast and a lot of the lyrics are bad. I wouldn't recomend it.

10) Still- Another ballad, they're what he does best! You can't blame the boy for doing so many, they're the best! Same sweet lyrics, you just wanna cuddle with someone.

11) Don't Know Where To Start- this one's cool. Nice beat, okay lyrics, cool vocals, not the best, but far from the worst. Like I said, his better ones tend to be ballads.

12) Biggest Part Of Me- This song is sooooo sweet! My second favorite ballad! "I love yous, I need yous, are only words that people say. They're just words, when they're hand in hand, with the games that people play" too true! It kinda sounds like it'll be sad, but then it gets into the chorus with "But if I never see the top of a mountain, if i never step one foot in the sea. I promise you I'll love you forever, You'll always be the biggest part of me." This song better be playing at prom! it's perfect for slow dancing and cuddling with someone you love. It's song like this that make the album so good.

13) When Will I See You Again- Cool song with Fred Hammond. It's the big religious song of this album. If you're not big on those skip it, but it's really nice. I like the lyrics. Not enough room to type them, so if you want'em you'll just have to listen to the song!

14) For You- Good ballad, about everything being worth it if they get through to one person. You'll like it, it's sweet. Brian's ballads rock.

15) Groovin' Tonight- Bonus track, and the only one not written by him if I'm not mistaken. It's done with the St Lunatics, which was another thing I didn't expect to see. Brian does the chorus. It's cool, different feel from most of the album. It's something for the new generation who haven't discovered him!

All in all a good album, get it. Hurry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best, August 28, 2001
This review is from: Superhero (Audio CD)
This is by far his best album yet. The track "Groovin' Tonight" is a great jam to listen to, though I like the unedited version better on the St. Lunatics CD. Also the song "Everything" is so sweet it reminds me of my girlfriend. Brian McKnight has topped his second best album "Back At One", and it's hard to believe that he could top that great album. Expectations were low for this CD but now this CD stays in my CD player CONSTANTLY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brian Scores...., August 29, 2001

On his latest CD "Superhero", Brian McKnight once again displays his gift as a song writer. This CD is a signature Brian McKnight performance one that his fans will love.
This album has a concept and the songs are on target in giving us a look into the life of Brian McKnight. There are more collarborations on this CD than previous ones but they do not disappoint. In collaborating with Justin Timberlake, Nate Dogg, and The St. Lunatics, Brian shows his versatility as an artist. In my opinion, this album has one problem, that's the title track, "Superhero", it is a hard-rockish song that just doesn't work.
As usual, Brian includes a faith filled/spritual/gospel track, "When Will I see You Again". It has a contemporary gospel appeal, and how could he go wrong in collaborating with Fred Hammond?
Brian has most likely gained many new fans with "Love of My Life" which is destined to be the wedding song of the year. Other must hear tracks are: Whatever You Want, Biggest Part of Me, and Everything.
