Good, but has some draw backs,
By Lys "twizlycrunkette" (columbus, ohio United States) - See all my reviews

I figured I'd give u the track by track, it's easier than overall album.1) Prelude- Kinda boring in my opinion, but I'm not a prelude person. It gets better 2) When You Wanna Come- Good, but not the best. It has those kinda corny WHAT! lyrics at points, but they're so catchy and the beat just gets it stuck in your head. Ex: "Let me be your Tarzan swinging from a tree, tripple w dot superhero dot me...." just try to not sing it after u heard it a few times! 3) What's It Gonna Be- It's okay, nice beat, but the vocals sound a little slow for it. You'll wanna dance. 4) My Kinda Girl- OH MY GOOD! This is my all time favorite song on the cd! It's duet with justin Timberlake, and surprisingly it works! Their voices are perfect together! It starts off with a little harmonizing and it continues through it. And it's upbeat, really surprising because most of his best are ballads! This song has great vocals, and outstanding lyrics, this album is worth getting just for that song. I just can resist typing the lyrics now "When you talk; I hang on every word you say. When you move; your like the breeze on a summer day. When you smile; the sky turns from gray to blue. That's what you do." and the chorus! "And you're the kinda girl i think of, and you'rr the kinda girl I dream about. My heart is telling me i need you in my world. 'Cause you're my kinda lady, you're my kinda girl." I love it! 5) Love Of My Life- You've all heard it, I'm not even going to bother. 6) Whatever You Want- Another catchy song. This one is actually about letting the girl take control 'cause "It's not about me, it's whatever you like" Go Brian! 7) Everything- Really sweet ballad. Brian's the best at these! Gotta love it. 8) Get Over You- Best ballad on the cd! My second favorite! It's so sweet! As you can tell, it's about a break-up! Really sweet lyrics. I love when he sings "My pride always get's in the way... I lied. I should've begged you to stay. It may take till forever is through, to get over you" Listen to it, you'll see what I mean! 9) Superhero- Title song, but one of the album's worst. Cool beat, but it gets old fast and a lot of the lyrics are bad. I wouldn't recomend it. 10) Still- Another ballad, they're what he does best! You can't blame the boy for doing so many, they're the best! Same sweet lyrics, you just wanna cuddle with someone. 11) Don't Know Where To Start- this one's cool. Nice beat, okay lyrics, cool vocals, not the best, but far from the worst. Like I said, his better ones tend to be ballads. 12) Biggest Part Of Me- This song is sooooo sweet! My second favorite ballad! "I love yous, I need yous, are only words that people say. They're just words, when they're hand in hand, with the games that people play" too true! It kinda sounds like it'll be sad, but then it gets into the chorus with "But if I never see the top of a mountain, if i never step one foot in the sea. I promise you I'll love you forever, You'll always be the biggest part of me." This song better be playing at prom! it's perfect for slow dancing and cuddling with someone you love. It's song like this that make the album so good. 13) When Will I See You Again- Cool song with Fred Hammond. It's the big religious song of this album. If you're not big on those skip it, but it's really nice. I like the lyrics. Not enough room to type them, so if you want'em you'll just have to listen to the song! 14) For You- Good ballad, about everything being worth it if they get through to one person. You'll like it, it's sweet. Brian's ballads rock. 15) Groovin' Tonight- Bonus track, and the only one not written by him if I'm not mistaken. It's done with the St Lunatics, which was another thing I didn't expect to see. Brian does the chorus. It's cool, different feel from most of the album. It's something for the new generation who haven't discovered him! All in all a good album, get it. Hurry!

Simply The Best,
By Michael Rodden (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews

This is by far his best album yet. The track "Groovin' Tonight" is a great jam to listen to, though I like the unedited version better on the St. Lunatics CD. Also the song "Everything" is so sweet it reminds me of my girlfriend. Brian McKnight has topped his second best album "Back At One", and it's hard to believe that he could top that great album. Expectations were low for this CD but now this CD stays in my CD player CONSTANTLY!!!

Brian Scores....,

This review is from: Superhero (Audio CD)
On his latest CD "Superhero", Brian McKnight once again displays his gift as a song writer. This CD is a signature Brian McKnight performance one that his fans will love. This album has a concept and the songs are on target in giving us a look into the life of Brian McKnight. There are more collarborations on this CD than previous ones but they do not disappoint. In collaborating with Justin Timberlake, Nate Dogg, and The St. Lunatics, Brian shows his versatility as an artist. In my opinion, this album has one problem, that's the title track, "Superhero", it is a hard-rockish song that just doesn't work. As usual, Brian includes a faith filled/spritual/gospel track, "When Will I see You Again". It has a contemporary gospel appeal, and how could he go wrong in collaborating with Fred Hammond? Brian has most likely gained many new fans with "Love of My Life" which is destined to be the wedding song of the year. Other must hear tracks are: Whatever You Want, Biggest Part of Me, and Everything.

Can't outdue his first album,
By PEDRO GUTIERREZ (Union City, CA United States) - See all my reviews

It's not so much the music on this album that makes it poor, but to know that your not getting the very best of Brian when you listen to it. He could have easily been put in the same ranks as Stevie, Vandross, and Smokie, to name a few, if he would have continued with the style of his debute album. Seriously, listen to his first album, and pay attention to the power and vocal range of his voice in each song. It's amazing to the point where you get goose bumps. Listen to the strings, piano, and powerful sounding orchestral type music when you here it. That album could have came out this year, and still have gone 2x platinum. When I heard the song "Love of my life" from his most recent effort (Superhero) on a T.V. commercial, I ran and bought the album thinking he had returned to his roots. When I listened to the album, I came to find out that "Love of my Life" was the only good song on there. Everything else on the album sounded trendy and commercial, something you would come to expect from artist like Genuwine, Sisqo, R-Kelly, etc. (Singing over rap beats) I have also noticed that in this album, as in his previuos 2, that he is lacking the feeling and the emotion behind the words of each song. I must say that I am dissapointed with the effort put into this album, and felt like I was cheated. For all of you who have just begun to like Mr. McKnight, and have not listened to his first album, please do so. You will feel me after you do.

Trust this one...it's the R'n'B we've needed,
By Josh Adams (Iowa) - See all my reviews

In the past few years, the smooth R'n'B genre has suffered major blows, with the decline of Boyz II Men, the absence of Babyface, the thuggery of R.Kelly, and the hit and miss of almost every other group. However, Brian McKnight has found his niche. He sings from the heart, his songs sound passionate, and his lyrics at least bother to relate to real life. This album is what I've personally been waiting for- something slow and meaningful to listen to. It's also everything I didn't get from Boyz II Men's last attempt, R. Kelly's downward spiral into thug life, Babyface's terrible new album, and K-Ci and JoJo's one hit albums. Trust me on this one; it will satisfy your love song needs.

Incredible Vocalist returns with same old formula,
By J. Martin "ffej26" (Woodside, NY) - See all my reviews

Brian McKnight has one of the most beautiful voices in R&B today. On his third album Brian produces another collection of R&B ballads mixed with a few of uptempo soulful tracks. Only one problem, this album sounds exactly like his previous efforts, and almost all ballads are reminiscent of his hit Back at One. However, there are quite a few gorgeous songs that will take your breath away. The best track on the album is Get Over You. Brian is in perfect voice with lush harmonies and orchestration. Still is another wonderful ballad that could be anothe hit for him. Superhero is another great track. Brian goes for a midtempo pop song with inspirational lyrics. The most adventurous track is the stunning duet My Kind of Girl with Justin Timberlake. Their voices fit perfectly together and this song could go down as one of the best male duets ever recorded. This song alone is worth buying the whole cd. Brian has proven that he is the king of romantic R&B ballads, but he already had in my opinion. It's time to try something new and a little more today. His songs seem to be stuck in the early 90's, but he is truly one of the most gifted singers of our time.

I remember when I first picked up this album I didn't think much of it. After listening to it a couple times it really started to get into my head. This cd has a good mix of fast tunes (Groovin tonight, Don't know where to start) and vintage Brian mcknight ballads (Still, Everything). His collaborations with Justin T, the St. Lunatics, and Nate Dogg were all really well done and are sure to get you up and dancing. My kinda girl, Love of my life, Everything, and Biggest part of me were my favourite songs on this cd. It may take a few listens but this cd is full of great songs.

Much Underrated and Underappreciated Artist,
By Donovan Juan (Perth, WA Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Superhero (Audio CD)
Brian McKnight has been recording great albums since his debut in 1991 with his self-titled album. McKnight is a consistantly brilliant Quiet Storm/Urban artist. I own three of his albums and they are all fantastic. It is a shame that the public (and the media) do not seem to have as high respect for him as I do. I guess it is because he is not a mainstream R & B artist and he is not a young teen idol like Usher (indeed, his Christmas album shows that his is very much family-orientated). On his sixth album (including Bethlehem), Brian has created an album that features some of his classic signature light-weight yet soulful Quiet Storm, but he has added a few new (and unexpected) elements to add to the mix. His ballads such as "Everything", "Still" and "Biggest Part Of Me" are amongst his best. However he really shines on some of the more unusual tracks. "What's It Gonna Be" reminds me of some of his jazzier work from his debut, and the heavy beats on "When You Wanna Come" is a good counterpoint to the sweet melody. THe acoustic delight of "My Kind Of Girl" is a fantastic duet with Justin Timberlake and is classic McKnight though it feels unusual due to the use of guitar over the more commonly used piano. McKnight gives us a glimpse of his falsetto, more sweet than sly on "Love Of My Life". His gospel track "When Will I See You Again" is great, better than "Anytime's" "When The Chariot Comes". But the real surprise (and gem) on the album is the title track. Admittedly I was shocked by this rock track (especially from McKnight!) but after much listening, I think it is a very good song and works very well. All in All, McKnight has produced a fun and eclectic album that is more experimental than is previous work, but not a sell-out on his Quiet Storm and an embrace of more Hip Hop-influenced songs.

Brian's Back!,
By rnbqueen1 (California) - See all my reviews

This album is unbelievable!!... Brian definitely has to be one of the most influential R&B artists of all time, he just mages to get better and better with each album. Any other artist cannot match his vocal ability, lyrics, and style right now - he is incredible. ''Superhero'' has been in my CD player since it first came out, I love it more and more each time I listen to it. He has offered a more pop-orientated sound on this album too, but not in a sell-out type of manner - with class!!! The duet with Nsync's Justin Timberlake is awesome and Nate Dogg adds a little hip-hop edge to the album as well. ''Love Of My Life'', the first single, is amazing. In "Whatever You Want'' Brian samples Prince's ''The Beautiful Ones'' as well as Jodeci's own K-ci and JoJo's ''Don't Rush''. These two songs help establish him as a the baby-makin' music maker. The bonus track is definitely off tha hook, with the St. Lunatics, it completes the package of this great album, I completely recommend it to everyone............
