The list author says: "There are a lot of superhero themed graphic novels in the Amazon store but finding superhero prose novels can be difficult. So here are a few lists of superhero novels available on Amazon. These are books I've either read, are on my list to read, or that I think might be interesting to other fans of the genre.
Note: Only the first book in a series is listed.

"A much better "world without Superman" story than the Superman Returns movie. Superman goes into self-imposed exile and finally returns to a world that has had a generation of 'heroes' and villains grow up without the guidance of Justice League."
"One of the best superhero novels, imo. A gritty alternate universe story that takes place sometime after Bane breaks Bruce Wayne's back. Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Oracle, Huntress, and Batgirl are all pressed in service to try to save the city."
"A very entertaining genre mashup with superheroes and zombies. A group of heroes have fortified a movie studio lot and are just trying to survive the end of the world when the first supervillain makes himself known. Followed by Ex-Patriots and Ex-Communication."
"Butcher's Spidey is often hysterically funny but the novel turns very sweet and sad during a touching conversation between Peter and Aunt May. I never considered the Rhino a deep or interesting character but Butcher's take on the big guy is very good."
""Being a supervillain means never having to say youíre sorry Ö ... And remember - Losing an argument with a group of rioters isnít a good excuse to start lobbing tear gas indiscriminately at them. Youíve only got so many rounds and itís going to be a long day, so make sure you get as many as possible with each one.""
"A would-be former villain is trying to go straight but a combination of his reputation, lifestyle and the friends he keeps pulls him back in for just one more job - a job that goes disastrously wrong. Can he keep his head down and life through it or will a lifetime of bad decisions spell not only his end but that of everyone else on Earth?"
"A super intelligent alien bonds to a human being granting him powers beyond that of mortal men. Flight, invulnerability, and super senses. Good deal, right? Well, except for that who alien-is-a-murderous-psychopath part...
Fun read with a surprisingly empathetic and heroic protagonist (protagonists?)."
""When the world turned its back on metahumans, the golden age of superheroes came crashing down. But now a mysterious supercriminal is making one final bid for power, and with no one else left to protect the world, ex-hero Spook must risk everything to take him down. There will be no reprieve, no negotiation. War is coming.
"Super is the first of three novels (Super, Fire With Fire, and Leech) that feature strong female protagonists with various super powers. In Super, Ophelia and her partner Naomi must confront a legacy of their past.
Fun and mostly irreverent (girlfriend, you are NOT fighting crime in those heels!) look at superheroing."
"When is a superhero novel not about superheroes? When they're about a PI that was married to one and who now goes through life with a 'Supers Suck!' t-shirt proudly displayed. The supers are not amused.
Very funny debut novel that is followed by Desperate Times and Hostile Territory. You'll laugh, you'll cry (laughing), and you'll roll your eyes."
"Did you see the movie Megamind? This is Megamind on downers. Major downers. But that makes for an interesting read as the author explores what makes a villain and why they just cannot stop trying to take over the world."
"Spunky young college student finds out that people with super powers are very real and, now that her abilities are starting to manifest, she must join a shadowy agency that regulates them... or else."
"Davey has the power to 'jump' or teleport. Escaping an abusive father, Davey establishes a new life. When his mother is murdered by a terrorist, Davey uses his power to seek revenge - a process that brings him to the attention of the U.S. government.
Not exactly a superhero novel but Davey doesn't have to be blue and make -bamf- noises to be heroic. Followed by Reflex and Impluse."
"Not exactly a superhero novel per-se but comes pretty close when you mix a sci-fi setting and 'psychic space ninjas'. First part of a trilogy (plus gratuitous epilogue). Decidedly YA (with a strong romance leaning) but a fun read once the action gets moving."
