I write articles for boating magazines and frequently rely upon other sources of information just to be able to go out and research new material. This book is the only absolutely essential resource for those who go out on Lake Superior.

Cruising Surperior has always been a goal for my husband and myself. Three years ago I bought 5 copies of the book for ourselves and friends. We studied and planned and charted Superior the first year. The book gave us a very detailed description of approaches, anchorages, bottom holding, alternative anchorages depending on wind. We found our first summer 1999 sailing Superior a very rewarding experience and in a large way "Superior Way" gave us the confidence to approach seemingly unapproachable anchorages. In many instances we seemed familiar with the areas, having read, studied Bonnie's book. We circumnavigated Superior that year and vowed to return in 2000. We did and again Bonnie Dahl's book was invaluable. We are going again in 2001. Lake Superior is a formidable lake by many accounts but having good Navigation skills and equipment, charts and Bonnie's book; Your experience will be the highlight of your cruising experience for years to come. Motor or Sail - - BUY THE BOOK!!

Bonnie and Ron Dahl started sailing Lake Superior in 1974. By 1983 they had enough experience with the Upper Lake to be able to speak with authority, and the first edition of this excellent resource was published.
If you are interested in sailing any part of Lake Superior, buy this book.
The section on the Apostle Islands clearly indicates a cruisers view of the world. Where to anchor. The type of bottom your anchor will rest in. And wind conditions that may cause you to seek a different location.
Pretty important stuff!

We were fortunate enough to find a copy of this book onboard a sailboat we had chartered in the Apostle Islands. The information it contains about docks and anchorages seemed very accurate and helped us make decisions on where to go. The history it contains about the area was informative as well as the guide to some of the trails on land. We referred to the book very often for information and diagrams.
I highly recommend this book if you plan to cruise the Apostle islands for even a single weekend.

If you own a pleasure boat ... power or sail ...this is required reading! The nautical detail in this inland sea work is wonderful, especially if you are just beginning your seamanship experiences on Lake Superior.
