5.0 out of 5 stars Great Marriage Resource
The title of this book might lead you to believe that it is another book about being the "perfect wife". However, it is actually teaching women to let go and be a little "less perfect". In today's world, women tend to over-achieve while letting their men off the hook. Rubenstein believes this is unhealthy in a marriage, leading to resentment on both sides. While some...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing.
I am surprised at the number of positive reviews here. This book is simply the results of the author's research. There are chapters and chapters of case studies in which a wife does significantly more that the husband. That's it. i kept reading, thinking that eventually there would be some guidance for those who experience this type of marriage. There was almost none. I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Marriage Resource, October 12, 2009
This review is from: The Superior Wife Syndrome: Why Women Do Everything So Well and Why--for the Sake of Our Marriages--We've Got to Stop (Hardcover)
While some might see the author as a man-hater, I didn't get that. I understood her to be encouraging women to let their men step up to the plate and take responsibility that is theirs as well. I feel it is a great resource for both men and women who are trying to improve their marriage.

I was a little worried that this book WAS going to be bias as the comment before had said, but boy was I wrong. It really helped open my husbands eyes! He realized that I am a pretty darn good wife and he doesn't have it that hard. He even thinks that I am amazing person and wouldn't trade me for any other girl. He has started helping me more with stuff instead of complaining. This book helped me make him open his eyes in a very easy nice way. We are both much happier and have more fun doing things together like cleaning, taking care of the kids etc. I tell all wifes and soon to be's that they should get this book to have a healthier and happier marriage

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK WILL EXPLAIN WHY 70% OF DIVORCES ARE INITIATED BY WOMEN, September 13, 2011
This is another great book. It will explain why I believe around 70% of divorces are initiated by women. This book shows the laziness that a lot of men have in marriages when it comes to doing their fair share of the work. It also shows that women give in to easily when their husbands don't help out with the work load in the marriage. Because of both, the wife ends up doing most of the work (AKA superior wife). This book holds women just as responsible for not getting an equal partner in marriage. Women need to require an equal partner if they want an equal partner. Men need to be an equal partner out of fairness and if they want a happy marriage. The last chapter is about how to fix a superior wife marriage. Although, very difficult to do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Certainly not scholarly., January 1, 2012

This review is from: The Superior Wife Syndrome: Why Women Do Everything So Well and Why--for the Sake of Our Marriages--We've Got to Stop (Hardcover)
This is not a work of scholarship, please understand that. It is a loosely compiled collection of anecdotes that attempt to simplify complex issues. The author clearly has her own bias which she is unable to look beyond, unacceptable for someone trained in psychology, and, as a result, loses any credibility she might have regarding some salient points contained in her text. If she wrote such a book without standing behind her credentials for legitimacy, it would be a flawed but passable book. As it is, it is close to professional malpractice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Affirming!!!, October 19, 2009
This review is from: The Superior Wife Syndrome: Why Women Do Everything So Well and Why--for the Sake of Our Marriages--We've Got to Stop (Hardcover)
This book helped me to understand just went wrong with my 13 year marriage and how not to repeat the same behavior in my next relationship. It was affirming to recognize that I was not the only women caught in the vicious cycle of
superiority and perfection. I would recommend this book to men and women alike. Even if you don't agree with the author's philosophy, this book will generate lively conversation.

I do have one criticism of this book. I found it overly repetitive. Several chapters could have been eliminated and provided the same information.

Being in my 70's, I have seen many marriages that thrive or fail...with many in-between. This author has done excellent research that describes many marriages' pluses or minuses. I highly recommend reading this book to ALL women and most men. I wish I had had it to read 50 years ago.

This review is from: The Superior Wife Syndrome: Why Women Do Everything So Well and Why--for the Sake of Our Marriages--We've Got to Stop (Hardcover)
The Superior Wife Syndrome: Why Women Do Everything So Well and Why - for the Sake of Our Marriages - We've Got to Stop provides case histories of wives and husbands to support the idea that modern wives tend to do all - while their husbands coast along, with little control. Psychologist Carin Rubenstein explores how this syndrome damages relationships and how couples can work to regain equality. An outstanding survey any general library will find compelling.

This author is so biased against men, that I can not see how anyone would take this book seriously except for a another man-hating, biased woman. I realize that the author would merely dismiss this statement as another example of a man's ignorance, ego, self-serving, lazy, etc etc.
If man is so bad, why, WHY, would any woman want to save the marriage?? Buy a book on Divorce instead.
She claims to have statistic proof that man is so inferior but it seems more based upon selected Internet so-called controlled samples. And extremely repetitious--apparently the superior wife is slow on the pick-up.
Where did she get her PhD?

Written by an inferior, lazy, egotistical PhD man.
