Biography

COURSE OF NATURE
Mark Wilkerson - Guitar, Vocals
Sean Kipe - Guitar, Backup Vox
Jackson Eppley - Bass
Shane Lenzen - Drums

It would be easy to hate COURSE OF NATURE’s Mark Wilkerson, in theory. He is married to a TV star (Melissa Joan Hart), likely hob-nobs with celebrities in Los Angeles and has a new album coming out that is backed by major music executive / visionaries. The path he and COURSE OF… Read more in Amazon's Course of Nature Store

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Band... Such a Rarity in Modern Hard Rock., November 2, 2003
By
This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
No band in the modern music scene can combine emotion, perfect guitar riffs, and heavy bass to create a painfully life-like album. The songs clearly stem from true emotion (e.g. Tool), rather than teenage angst or broken homes (e.g. Papa Roach). This is a perfect blend of all these things, and results in a rare gem in modern rock.
As far as the music goes, the songs on the CD are so different and diverse, they may have been written by 10 different bands. It opens with the sluggish, emotional and very good "Wall of Shame". Next, it stems off into the surprising ballad "Caught In The Sun", which mixes acoustic guitars, crooning vocals and a perfect underlying bass tone. Also, the band manages to incorporate some orchestral music into this song, adding to the drama level. The band continues throught the album in said fashions of the first two tracks, changing the styles just enough to avoid being cliche, but not as much as to break away from what makes them Course of Nature. By the final two tracks, "Better Part Of Me" and "After the Fall", the band adds some speed, complex drumming, and even some jazz instruments into the music. Both of these tracks make perfect closers to this near-perfect debut album.
Hard rockers looking for some good new music will have a very hard time in todays world, but this is a great place to start. Course of Nature are a rarity of amazing music that doesn't sound like a carbon-copy of a band that came before them. Originality that results in something this great is a near-impossible find today, so get this one now. It's worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Debut... a Great CD, January 5, 2006
By
presypclhs (New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
I first heard about Course of Nature when a friend of mine recommended Wall of Shame. I then acquired their debut album Superkala in 2002. Three or four years later, it's still one of my favorite cds. The songs range from rough hard dock (Wall of Shame) to soft, violin accompanied ballads (Caught in the Sun) to the jazzy After the Fall.

Caught of Nature is:

Mark Wilkerson -- Lead vocals, rhythm guitar.

Fish -- Lead guitar, bass.

Ricky Shelton -- Drums, backup vocals.

The album features ten solid rock songs, but there are some standouts. Caught in the Sun is a magnificient track, Difference of Opinion, Someone Else to You, and Better Part of Me are absolutely stellar tracks.

Wilkerson is not an exceptional singer, although he's very good. Fish is an excellent guitarist, and, accompanied with Wilkerson's solid rhythm guitar, produce a great sound. Shelton is a respectable drummer, although the drums are usually drowned out by the guitar. One of the great strengths of this group is the song writing. Songs such as Better Part of Me and Caught in the Sun are beautifully written.

I have one complaint about the album though. With only ten tracks, it comes in at a short (approx.) 46 minutes. Hopefully, if there's a followup album, it will be just as solid of a record but feature a few more tracks. They've had three years, so if they are producing another album, I'm expecting alot out of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well...it's getting hard to find good bands, July 29, 2003
This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
I saw Course of Nature in concert with Nickelback last year. After that concert, I went out and bought their album, having never heard of this band before. While listening to it for the first time, I was intrigued, and decided that it was getting hard finding good bands. Course of Nature has some strong songs, but that's just part of the album. I personally liked it, but I really wish there were more bands out that are new, and have some talent. Course of Nature has a great album, and although it's been a year, I still listen to this cd. For someone who saw them in concert, not knowing who they were, that's pretty good. I hope to see more of Course of Nature, since their sound is similar to 3 Doors Down, who I've also seen in concert, and Creed, who's one of my favorite bands. I recommend that if you like either one of those bands, then you pick up this cd. My favorite track is Someone Else To You, but they are all good, and this cd is a must have.
