An Amazing Band... Such a Rarity in Modern Hard Rock.,
By
This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
No band in the modern music scene can combine emotion, perfect guitar riffs, and heavy bass to create a painfully life-like album. The songs clearly stem from true emotion (e.g. Tool), rather than teenage angst or broken homes (e.g. Papa Roach). This is a perfect blend of all these things, and results in a rare gem in modern rock.As far as the music goes, the songs on the CD are so different and diverse, they may have been written by 10 different bands. It opens with the sluggish, emotional and very good "Wall of Shame". Next, it stems off into the surprising ballad "Caught In The Sun", which mixes acoustic guitars, crooning vocals and a perfect underlying bass tone. Also, the band manages to incorporate some orchestral music into this song, adding to the drama level. The band continues throught the album in said fashions of the first two tracks, changing the styles just enough to avoid being cliche, but not as much as to break away from what makes them Course of Nature. By the final two tracks, "Better Part Of Me" and "After the Fall", the band adds some speed, complex drumming, and even some jazz instruments into the music. Both of these tracks make perfect closers to this near-perfect debut album. Hard rockers looking for some good new music will have a very hard time in todays world, but this is a great place to start. Course of Nature are a rarity of amazing music that doesn't sound like a carbon-copy of a band that came before them. Originality that results in something this great is a near-impossible find today, so get this one now. It's worth every penny.

A Very Good Debut... a Great CD,
By presypclhs (New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
I first heard about Course of Nature when a friend of mine recommended Wall of Shame. I then acquired their debut album Superkala in 2002. Three or four years later, it's still one of my favorite cds. The songs range from rough hard dock (Wall of Shame) to soft, violin accompanied ballads (Caught in the Sun) to the jazzy After the Fall.
Caught of Nature is: Mark Wilkerson -- Lead vocals, rhythm guitar. Fish -- Lead guitar, bass. Ricky Shelton -- Drums, backup vocals. The album features ten solid rock songs, but there are some standouts. Caught in the Sun is a magnificient track, Difference of Opinion, Someone Else to You, and Better Part of Me are absolutely stellar tracks. Wilkerson is not an exceptional singer, although he's very good. Fish is an excellent guitarist, and, accompanied with Wilkerson's solid rhythm guitar, produce a great sound. Shelton is a respectable drummer, although the drums are usually drowned out by the guitar. One of the great strengths of this group is the song writing. Songs such as Better Part of Me and Caught in the Sun are beautifully written. I have one complaint about the album though. With only ten tracks, it comes in at a short (approx.) 46 minutes. Hopefully, if there's a followup album, it will be just as solid of a record but feature a few more tracks. They've had three years, so if they are producing another album, I'm expecting alot out of it.

Well...it's getting hard to find good bands,

I saw Course of Nature in concert with Nickelback last year. After that concert, I went out and bought their album, having never heard of this band before. While listening to it for the first time, I was intrigued, and decided that it was getting hard finding good bands. Course of Nature has some strong songs, but that's just part of the album. I personally liked it, but I really wish there were more bands out that are new, and have some talent. Course of Nature has a great album, and although it's been a year, I still listen to this cd. For someone who saw them in concert, not knowing who they were, that's pretty good. I hope to see more of Course of Nature, since their sound is similar to 3 Doors Down, who I've also seen in concert, and Creed, who's one of my favorite bands. I recommend that if you like either one of those bands, then you pick up this cd. My favorite track is Someone Else To You, but they are all good, and this cd is a must have.

Hey, I remember these guys back when they were named Cog playing the bar circuit in my area. What can I say? ive been a fan since i first saw em play and im really proud that a band from my area is getting some success, its also nice to see good rock make a comeback. The Single "Caught in the Sun" is an obvious strong point as are others like "Wall of Shame" and "Better Part of Me". The album is full of catchy lyrics and guitar riffs and Mildrum is quite a talented guitarist. Good luck and rock on guys. South Eastern Alabama represent!!

This band is pretty cool. I heard of them when they played the single "Caught In The Sun" on my local radio station. I instantly thought the song was a strong song and maybe there would be more strong songs on the album. But the best songs on this are "Wall of Shame", "Caught In The Sun", "Someone Else To You" and "1000 Times". Maybe this band is the underdog band for right now but they write good songs and that's all that matters.

Course Of Nature: A Breath-Taking Nu-Rock band,
By
This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
Course of Nature is a trio from Alabama who made the radio waves in late 2002 and early 2003 with their hit song 'Caught In The Sun'. This album is titled 'Superkala', and it is a showcase of the band's talent. This is not one of those run of the mill rock bands....that come and go, fade in and fade out. I thoroughly enjoyed this album with 9 great rock-to songs. The last song was more of a jazzy by-product probably used as an album filler. The sound of the band wasn't too lite or harsh, just right. This band is perfect for background play at a party. The songs that I liked on this album release were 'Better Part Of Me', 'Remain' and 'Caught In The Sun'.

promising new rock,

Course of Nature are an up and coming rock trio from Enterprise, AL. Their sound is straight-up, no-gimmick hard rock with plenty of hooks and layers of wonderful guitar lines. Mark Wilkerson has a sincere, powerful voice that never sounds overdone and the lyrics do not sound cliched or adolescent. "Difference of Opinion" has an extremely catchy chorus and is a well worthy track lyrically for anyone who may be having parental disagreements lately. The first single, "Caught in the Sun", is quickly becoming a hit at rock radio with its anthemic chorus and a beautiful backing string section. Other songs worthy of mentioning here are "Wall of Shame", "Remain", and "Better Part of Me". CON even adds a little reggae-sounding outro to the final track "After the Fall." If you are looking for some strong, sincere, and gimmick-free hard rock, look none further than Course of Nature.

I first heard this first track on this CD back in 2002 in the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 soundtrack. I never could find this album. Six years later, I finaly bought it. I thought the whole cd was like the first song "Wall of Shame". But i was wrong "Wall of Shame was heavy and epic, then most of the songs were soft and not so powerful. But its a good album, not great but a good. Doing songs in a soft manor is cool, if you're into that.

It was alright...,

This review is from: Superkala (Audio CD)
I have to admit, I do really like a few songs off this cd. Course Of Nature is another one of those good unknown bands that probably should have sold more records if they would have been marketed better. Still, I've seen quite a lot of good reviews for this cd and I wouldn't say they were as good as what people have been saying. The album was alright but at times wasn't really anything special. I didn't hate any of the songs at all. The ones I didn't like were because they didn't really sound anything special to me. My favorite tracks from the album are "Wall Of Shame", "Someone Else To You", "Remain", and "1000 Times". Here are the ratings...
1. Wall Of Shame - 10/10 2. Caught In The Sun - 7.5/10 3. Difference Of Opinion - 8/10 4. Someone Else To You - 9.5/10 5. Remain - 10/10 6. Gain - 9/10 7. 1000 Times - 9.5/10 8. Could I've Been - 8.5/10 9. Better Part Of Me - 6/10 10. After The Fall - 8.5/10 Overall: 86% B If you enjoyed "Wall Of Shame" and find this album for cheap somewhere you should consider checking it out. It's an okay release by an unknown band. |
