This is a 21st version of Sam Spade plus a some "Men in Black" pizazz, and a little humor besides. Action-packed and a quick entertaining read!

Being one who appreciates good "geeky" humor, I was looking forward to reading this book. Surprisingly, it reminded me of Douglas Adams books, which I love. There was techie stuff in them, but you certainly don't have to be technologically-educated to understand what is going on in the story and the imagery in the plot was actually a lot more creative (even somewhat other-worldly at times) than I expected from a mystery story. It definitely got me thinking about the depth of our relationship with technolgy and wondering where we might find outselves in the not too distant future. However, it's not a super-serious or emotionally heavy book. Definitely a fun read for adults and young adults both, and I'm looking forward to Dev Manny's next adventure!

A fun upgrade to the traditional detective story,

Superliminal is written from the perspective of a techie brain detective, complete with the funny similes and metaphors describing the people, the scenes, and the dark eerie story he ends up being thrown into. Its much more satisfying than the detective stories you see on television or movies these days, and it comes with all the technological upgrades that Humphrey Bogart was lacking. Its an unexpected story that left me wanting to read more adventures of Dev Manny.

This book is soooo good. I am not normally a tech book kind of person at all, but decided to try this out and it is not what I expected at all. It is so much better. There is humor, and mystery, and you can't wait to get to the next chapter. This author really knows how to write and keep you entertained. I will definetly be keeping my eye out for all of his books. I would highly highly recomend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery. I love the book cover too, it is great.
*The humor in this book is great. You really get to know the character, and normally you would think a tech person is going to be that boring person in the thick glasses, but I picture him as this sexy guy in a long coat making the girls heads turn. :) |
