Some great old superman stories. By this time supes was starting to square off against super-villains a bit more often. Action #42 was probably my favorite, and has an interesting plot twist.

This is absolutly the best way to get the old comics from the 40's! They are here in color and on beautiful pages that make the comics come to life. They are meant for kids of the 40's and seem kind of hokey by todays standards, but these are the classics! I love each and every one that DC Comics puts out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superman at the dawn of the Golden Age/Start of WW2, December 23, 2008
By
The Mystic Eye Of The Hipster (Murfreesboro, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Superman The Action Comics Archives, Vol. 3 (DC Archive Editions) (Hardcover)
Superman in the months just before WW2. Handsome artwork, given the era's printing limitations. Many of the villains are drawn/talk like gangsters, but are clearly referrred to as "saboteurs", working for a "foreign power". Before Pearl Harbor, openly anti-Nazi covers appear on the comics, & some are reproduced here. The first supervillains appear, and, quite oddly for a pre-Manhattan Project world, often get their powers from atomic radiation. Luthor makes an appearance, gaining temporary electrical superpowers, & wearing a purple & white robe for a costume, which rather suits him.

This is a classic collection of Golden Age material, & a bargain.
Get it for your grandchildren, your kids, or even for yourself!

The Hipster gives it a Big Thumbs UP!
