This review is from: Superman Returns: The Complete Shooting Script (Paperback)
I saw the movie first in Imax 3-D and it was amazing! This script by Bryan Singer is spectacular. The only downside for me (for the movie & script) was the character of Kitty (Lex's dumb girlfriend). Parker Posey is annoying at best. Her only role I liked was in Scream 3. As for the character of Kitty, expect someone shallow , annoying & completely not needed in this story (or movie).
Overall, though, Superman Returns is one of the best scripts for comic book movies out there. You can tell there is a lot of love and insight into the character of Superman. Unfortunately they treat Clark Kent as a disguise only, unlike Smallville where Clark is the real him and Superman will be the disguise. The plot is a little out there. Lex wants to get his share of money from the world by creating basically a new Krypton on earth. When Lois says (quote from memory, might be off a little) "but it will kill millions" Lex responds "Wrong. Billions!" well who's going to pay to live on this land if billions die? For an evil genius this is Lex's dumbest comments. Sure he is supposed to have a downfall so Superman can beat him, but something so simple should have been better thought out. Otherwise, the script is very well done. Even if you don't see the movie first, it is a quick read and well worth the buy. |
