5.0 out of 5 stars The context is set for a tense and ferocious battle between Superman and the Super-Bugs, March 3, 2011
This review is from: Superman Vs. Aliens Book 1 (Comic)
This combination of one of the greatest heroes versus one of the scariest and most dangerous space villains is a great story that ends far too soon. The context is that Lexcorp is a mighty corporation, although Lex Luthor no longer manages it. It has a space program superior to NASA's and their deep space sensors have detected a spacecraft on target for a landing on Earth. Reporters Lois Lane and Clark Kent have been invited to be present when and where the craft collides with Earth.
However, Clark is shocked when he hears the signal from the approaching craft and he realizes that it is Kryptonian. He manages to get away and change into Superman so that he can intercept and recover the craft. It is very low on power but it is able to transfer a distress signal from an enclosed city that managed to survive the explosion of the planet Krypton.
While Lexcorp has no love for Superman, they agree to provide Superman with a ship so that he can fly it to the city and investigate it. As the title suggests, the city has a bug infestation problem of the worst kind. Superman is able to save some injured people that are near death and he sends them back to Earth in the Lexcorp ship for medical treatment. The story ends with a double-edged excellent cliffhanger that was so exciting that I immediately went online to look for the sequel.
Great heroes need great villains and the writers have set the stage for a dramatic confrontation with one of the worst. Superman has been weakened just enough to make the battles interesting and the context has been set for even greater dangers in the future.
