5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my goodness!
Girls, before this CD came out, I really thought I was doomed to apply my visage and accentuate my belle poitrine solely to the grim, lackluster vibes of tunes by the likes of Celine Dion or Miss Joan Baez. But then Ru entered my life with the international anthem of fierceness and beauty that is "Supermodel," and lord. my ruby-red pumps have never fit better...

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Different
I love "Back To My Roots" the only song I know that's all about Black Hair Styles. Also, I love the references Ru made to the movie "Paris Is Burning" in her song "Supermodel" you know the ("Shante, shante, shante, part").

Can I also add that this CD is groundbreaking. RuPaul was doing "Happy Hardcore" music a la "Everybody Dance" years before there was a term for it...

But then Ru entered my life with the international anthem of fierceness and beauty that is "Supermodel," and lord. my ruby-red pumps have never fit better! Not many CDs can approach the feeling of sheer joy in being alive and being glamorous that this one does - if it can't wake you up for an evening out, or lift your spirits when your hair just ain't WORKING or awaken you to the foxiness we all possess inside, then please darling, LISTEN TO IT AGAIN!

5.0 out of 5 stars Drag-a-licious CD! RuPaul's best!, September 25, 2002

The first and the best album by RuPaul! This sit eh album that you can sing along to. You can dance to it. You can sway to it. You can laugh to it! Whatever you're doing, you can do listening to this CD.

"Supermodel" is a great song. His biggest hit! Real campy and empowering too! You can be a supermodel! Just believe in yourself! Man or woman! "Back to My Roots" is another campy song but the message is there! It's all about the metaphors, honey! RuPaul pays hommage to Chic with "Every Dance" which sounds as if Chic were actually performing the song!

Why RuPaul didn't earn a Grammy nod for this album, I don't know. Give it to the drag queen! I mean, he actually posed in those stilletos! COme one! That takes a lot! And to sing, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sassy, Brassy and always Classy, September 4, 2001

This review is from: Supermodel of the World (Audio CD)
This is an original one folks. You can't get any better than Ru Paul in pumps and a wig doing her thing! Who else is going to give you lyrics like "Bigger than the love boat, smaller than your pinky", will sing about gay 'Houses', extols the fun of being a supermedel while poking fun at it at the same time, and has the insight to connect African American history to their hairstyles? No one, excpet Ru Paul. She's an original.

I can think of no other recording artist who displayed such unabashed fun and joy throughout the 1990's. Ru bathed and embrased the superficiality of pop and served it up in the most glorious package! Supermodel (You Better Work) dominated the airwaves of 1993 and although other singles didn't have the same imapct, there are still classics to be found. A Shade Shady is not only a good dance song, but perfectly shows off the Ru Paul personality. Back To My Roots is comical yet a bit profound in it's examination of changing hairstlyes. Supernatural is a top notch effort at a ballad that only needed a bit of that Ru Paul personality to put it over the top.

If you like to have fun (and who doesn't), you got to have this CD. It's a classic and a true original in every sense of the word. There has never been anything like it and there never will be again. So break out your pumps, MAC cosmetics and revealing clothing for a night of fun you'll never forget! You better work!

There's just something about RuPaul. With a sense of fun and play that is evocative and provocative at the same time, RuPaul brings out the devil in me. Not in a bad way, more in a playful way. A naughty way, if you will. Great party music...it's got a great beat, and you can dance to it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Dance Album, April 14, 2004

I love the dance tunes on here. The "Prisoner of Love" is cool also. There is also a good interview with LaWanda Page about trying to quit smoking on the "Stinky Dinky" intro. It's pretty funny. I also love the songs "House Of Love" "Everybody Dance" and "All Of A Sudden." I know I know everyone loves "Supermodel" and i like it too but i like to hear every now and then. So if u wanna boogie like there's no tomorrow then pick this up don't worry that it's by a drag queen he's still loves to dance just like you. Later
