Now That's What I'm Talkin' About!,

This review is from: Supernatural California (Paperback)
California's strange has been given a new leader in informative material. More material than previous books on the state's unusual sites, happenings and creatures. This one brings us encounters right up to the 21st century. But as I've stated in several of my other reviews, beware of certain deceptive phenomena (Ufos, ghosts, Virgin Mary sightings, etc.). If God wants to give us a special message today, it should agree with His Holy Writ; the Bible. Not bleeding statues and sap dripping from trees. All for the gullible and easily deceived. But still an overall excellent book.

Save your money and just surf the Internet,
By Julian (CALIFORNIA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Supernatural California (Paperback)
That's what the author obviously did. This VERY disappointing book features stories and urban legends taken verbatim from a number of paranormal web pages. Little effort was made to investigate, expand upon, or even fact-check the stories.
EXAMPLE: The Lake Hodges Monster is from a JOKE web page, featuring real photos of expeditions to Loch Ness to look for "Nessie" pasted into a humorous tale about expeditions to Lake Hodges (a local reservoir north of San Diego) to look for "Hodgie." A little fact checking or even a careful read would have revealed that it's just a joke, but instead the "Hodgie" story gets cut-and-pasted into this book as if it were real information. I suppose if you don't have access to the internet, then this book might be of some interest. But I have to assume that if you're shopping on Amazon you DO have access to the internet, so save yourself some money and just do a web search for "Haunted Places California" or "Paranormal Legends California" and you'll find every story in this book is already online for free.
