Save your money and just surf the Internet
on February 11, 2009
That's what the author obviously did. This VERY disappointing book features stories and urban legends taken verbatim from a number of paranormal web pages. Little effort was made to investigate, expand upon, or even fact-check the stories.
EXAMPLE: The Lake Hodges Monster is from a JOKE web page, featuring real photos of expeditions to Loch Ness to look for "Nessie" pasted into a humorous tale about expeditions to Lake Hodges (a local reservoir north of San Diego) to look for "Hodgie."
A little fact checking or even a careful read would have revealed that it's just a joke, but instead the "Hodgie" story gets cut-and-pasted into this book as if it were real information.
I suppose if you don't have access to the internet, then this book might be of some interest. But I have to assume that if you're shopping on Amazon you DO have access to the internet, so save yourself some money and just do a web search for "Haunted Places California" or "Paranormal Legends California" and you'll find every story in this book is already online for free.
