FINALLY - The ORIGINAL music,

Well, it's about freakin' time! I've been waiting forever for them to release a soundtrack of the original music to this great show.
BE AWARE, FOLKS: This is the ORIGINAL music that was written specifically for the show. (Hence the title--Supernatural: Original Television Soundtrack.) It is NOT the classic rock that was recorded by other artists and requires the purchasing of additional rights and is under copyright to other entities. There are plenty of sites that list which classic rock song(s) were used in which episode, and if they're not already in your collection, you can download those songs from such sites as iTunes and create your own classic rock soundtrack. It just takes a little more effort. But this! This is the music I could never successfully find anywhere else! This is Dean's guitar riff, a longtime favorite of mine. This is the hard-driving music that accompanied the Winchester break-in at the auction house in "Provenance." This is the end credit music--extended! THIS is the stuff I've been waiting for! And the titles are hilarious! But not only does it have the rockin' original riffs, it's got the soft, melodic pieces that pull at your heart strings, the songs that speak of the brothers' emotional journey, their deepest hurts and their fondest memories. I admit I'm something of a soundtrack/score/original cast recording geek, so this fits right in with the rest of my collection. But really, there is so much awesome here. I'm also glad I got the CD rather than downloading, because the CD comes with liner notes. My only disappointment is that it doesn't include the theme song to Supernatural the sit-com from "Changing Channels." That would have been classic.

This, my friends, is the SCORE from the awesome TV series. No, it does not contain the classic rock often played in the show-that stuff's all copywritten/various artists. But this instrumental background music is WONDERFUL. it's tense and riveting, often tapped with humor. The music is titled with tongue-in-cheek humor (#5 is "Dean's Dirty Organ) But ignore it. The music is WORTH HAVING! Especially if you appreciate classical music and movie scores. My fave so far is #5, a song designed with the boys in mind. Very acute in describing the brothers. The music is performed with a full orchestra and hits you with suspense; the tension is well performed. The other fave is #3 "Isn't It Bro-mantic?" (tongue-in-cheek humor) But again, ignore the dory title. it's a beautiful piece of music.
Yeah, I strongly recommend the CD, and not just because I'm a fan, but because I love music in general.

Great Suites From The Show That Are Surprisingly Accessible To Those Who Don't Watch The Show,
By
This review is from: Supernatural: Original Television Soundtrack - Seasons 1-5 (Audio CD)
Supernatural is I suppose your typical CW show. A series with campy values, a small but extremely dedicated fan base and has been on the air for a long time. Supernatural for anyone who isn't familiar with it is a show about 2 brothers traveling the country and fighting evil along the way as they search for their missing father and avenge their mother's death. Along the way they fight your typical horror movie creatures such as vampires and other demonic beings. Anyway, in most cases these type of scores are for the dedicated fans and usually don't appeal to the outsiders who never watched the series (like me). Is this the same case?
No. Thankfully so. Jay Gruska is a TV veteran with tons of shows under his belt so episodic TV is no stranger to him. Christopher Lennertz is an amazing composer who started off doing low profile movies mostly made for TV and then rose through the video game ranks and is now one of today's premiere talents. This release is more or a less a series of suites compiled from 5 seasons worth of score. It's unfortunate they couldn't get single season releases, but I guess something is better than nothing, right? On my initial listen I didn't check to see who composed what because I wanted to experience the soundscape as a whole. I gravitated to some tracks more than others and I guess I wasn't surprised when I checked and saw the ones I liked most were Lennertz's. While Gruska's music has that campy feel I do feel it's just too shallow and not enough emotional depth. Although the track "Americana" did surprise me. Lennertz brings a more organic feel to the music and the emotions he conveys come through clear with simple arrangements. While the music isn't anything brilliant that must be heard it definitely has its own special character and creates a unique atmosphere. You won't be able to escape the inevitable ominous tones that TV shows like this bring, but there are some great melodies in here especially from Lennertz.

I think all fans of this "cult" type TV show have been waiting and waiting for a soundtrack to be produced. I'm 67 years old and music is one thing I've never been able to live without and soundtracks make up a good percentage of my CD and music collection. This CD did not disappoint. The music is well done, evokes the series and I have enjoyed it a great deal. Now I would love to see a CD that also features the songs used in the series. Many of the songs are unique and many of them are memory provoking. I am very sure those of us who are fans would gladly purchase a CD that includes the music Sam and Dean listened to while in their car and the background songs like Oh, Death by D'Arcadia. Put the two CDs together and that's a collection! Please consider doing that next! Finally, thank you to the producers of the music on this CD. If you're a fan, you won't be disappointed.

Very enjoyable,

It's good to finally see the score for this show released. It is a nice mix of Gruska and Lennertz, each piece enjoyable in its own way, whether slow-paced, intense, or dark. I would have liked a little more early season themes on there, but I'm otherwise quite satisfied.

I love Supernatural's Original and Non-Original Music,
By
This review is from: Supernatural: Original Television Soundtrack - Seasons 1-5 (Audio CD)
I think this item is perfectly priced. I don't think you would expect to pay under $9 for a cd of all the music played through Supernaturals 5 seasons. In the first season alone, there were about 60 songs of Dean's music that they used from other artists through out the 20+ episodes. To have ALL the music from Seasons 1-5 would be phenomenal but it would cost more than 9 bucks and be on quite a few cds. I think alot of us have some of the music already in our music library and cd collections. This music on this cd has the original music from the series and when you read the titles of the songs these guys have chosen, you just have to laugh. Their music is very different but when you listen to it, it takes you back to the episodes you heard it in. I am very excited to own it.

An Amazing Soundtrack/Score,

This review is from: Supernatural: Original Television Soundtrack - Seasons 1-5 (Audio CD)
Well first off if you already scrolled down far enough to read this you should have already seen the track list for this CD. If you did you would have seen that this CD is for the ORIGINAL SCORE/SOUNDTRACK created specifically for the show SUPERNATURAL.
The CD recieved a handful of bad reviews from 6 or 7 people, not because the product is of poor quality or the songs are bad; but because those few idiots bought the CD without actually bothering to look at the track list or sampling the preview for each track. They were all so excited, expecting to buy a CD with all the Classic Rock songs created by other artists like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Boston etc. but instead ended up with the ORIGINALLY CREATED Soundtrack/Score instead. And because they were giant morons instead of kicking themselves for buying something without reading it they trashed a fantastic CD for no reason at all. Again it goes without saying: MORONS!!! Now on to the reivew of the actual CD itself. It has an amazing set list and has all the songs that any fan of Supernatural has been looking and waiting for and haven't been able to find.....till now!!! This Soundtrack is amazing even though it's all instrumental, from the awesome guitar riffs to the calm and touching melodies from the more somber moments in the show. This music is really worth owning, but I would ignore the different titles for each track, they seem to be more humorous then descriptive for example: "Gratuitous Sex and Violins" I would strongly recommend this CD. Whether you're a fan of the show or not I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of good instrumental music.

Although the collection can sometimes seem a little jumbled in how small musical pieces are put together in a single track, fans of the show can be happy that copies of many familiar themes are finally available after five seasons.
Particular standouts in the collection are the Americana track, whose sound is poignant and lyrical, and a longer version of the show's end theme (which has always been a favorite of mine) enhanced by a much longer guitar line. If you're not into musical scores, you probably won't enjoy this. But if you have been a longtime viewer and have noticed the musical interludes, you will surely recognize moments from the series as this collection plays, and will probably have a new appreciation for this part of Supernatural.

If you like the incidental music in the background of Supernatural, as well as the theme tune at the end, then this is a nice piece of guitar-based music which is quite pleasant to listen to while reading or whatever. Some of it is recognisable to fans, like the music from the season five horror movie episode, and some other recent episodes. The range is interesting, and I particularly like the music for Ruby (so cute, so creepy - it's called). Nothing tremendously great but certainly a nice listen, and if you're a fan it will bring back some memories and give you something to listen to while reading the latest Supernatural book or magazine.
