A must for Luxa-Pan fans.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Supernaut (Audio CD)
This CD really kind of sums up the music of Al Jourgensen in a small nutshell. The first song implies of his musical influences, being mostly Black Sabbath in nature and shows just how hard-driven his music is likely to sound. The second is the more droning, drum and bass industrial barn burner. The last two songs give you a taste of his early days of Ministry with the synth-pop sound and the only slightly distorted vocals. By the way, if you were hoping to hear Supernaut as sung by Trent Reznor, get the Nativity in Black compilation, because the version on this CD is sung by Al himself. It is hard to tell the difference, but it is there. Personally, I own more than just a few Luxa-Pan productions CD's, and this is by far my favorite. Yes, it is short, but it is well worth the time.

Nice "alternative" to Ministry...,

What we have here is basically all Ministry songs.Supernaut is the opening track, and what better way to open this ep. With a strong rock feel and a catchy riff, no wonder they chose this for the name of the ep. Hey A$$hole is probably the only bad song on this cd, if you ask me. Musically, it's not great, and it's lyrically it's just a cop cursing alot. If you hate cops though, you'll probably like this song. Apathy, perhaps my favorite on this cd, is one of the two outtakes from the Land of Rape and Honey album. This song, like Supernaut, has a nice feel to it, with well written lyrics and, without a doubt, one guitar riff which you won't be able to get out of your head. In this case, it's a good thing. This political song will surely stand out on the first listen. Better Ways, the last song on this short but great ep, is also a outtake from the Land...and all in all, this is a very futuristic sounding song. This has a strong synth sound to it, as opposed to the guitar heavy tracks before this. With that said, this song is unique(all are in their own way), and perhaps the most unique one on the ep. Also a great song. Check this out if you like Ministry, because basically, this IS Ministry, just under a different name. All in all, this is great, highly recommended, even if you don't like Ministry.

Rumor has it that Trent Reznor was supposed to do the vocals for this CD, but couldn't due to legal reasons. There's only 4 tracks on this CD, but they are all memorable, and it is well worth the price. There's nothing like playing Supernaut (the title track) with the volume set to 11, flying down the highway!

A not so easy CD to find, worth the price,

Like everything that Alain Jourgensen(Ministry & RevCo Front man) touched in the late 80's this CD has that raw power edge that attracted me and most of the poeple I knew to the industrial age. If you're more into the rock side of Indie, then the heavy base, fast pace, Lots of guitar and little synth will be what you're looking for, including Trent Reznor(NIN) on lead vocals. If you like this then I'd suggest "Trait" by Pailhead, Another Alian Jourgensen side project that fell behind the rafters. With Ian MacKaye(Minor Threat, Fugazi)on lead vocals, and Al doing back up, it's one of the more interesting/power house EPs from it's time.

The essential industrial-party-rock-type-thing track,

Back in the 80s, the Wax Trax label was less about bands and more about the loose array of talent that sluiced through the doors. Built mainly around Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Martin Atkins of Killing Joke, Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker of Ministry, and Chris Connelly of Finitribe, they and a few dozen others sort of coalesced under different moniquers to relase either whole albums or single singles. One Thousand Homo DJ's was just such an example.Originally, it was regarded as unreleasable (according to legend the band got the name after a plugger heard the lead track and proclaimed 'I have a thousand homo DJs on my lists, and I won't be able to get any of them to play this'). It rapidly became one of the real breakthrough indutrial rock tracks: a supergroup, working under pseudonyms for contractual reasons, releasing a Black Sabbath track, back before the Ozzfest rehabilitated them. The result is a wild, groovy, deafening, acid-tinged dance-floor filler, with everything turned up to 11. It was the first track to show the general public that the scene wasn't all about death, gloom and misery: instead, this was bouncy nonsense. The whole EP originally ended up sounding like a comedy record, with original vinyl b-side Hey [...]setting a Deliverance-style back-roads encounter with a redneck cop to a relentless, hammer-down chant. This CD version adds two tracks onto the original vinyl version: Apathy sounds like a rejected track from Jourgensen's Psalm 69 sessions, while Better Ways could well be something that his other supergroup side-project, Revolting Cocks, accidentally released during their last, weakest run. However, nothing can over-shadow the skull-cracking pleasure of the opener. At least as good as the Sabbath original.

Supernaut,

Great cd. And actually, Supernaut IS sung by Trent Reznor. When they were about to release the cd, TVT didn't allow the track to be released with Reznor on it, so Jorgensen went back into the studio and fiddled with the audio a little bit and lied to the record companies, saying he re-sang it.

1000 (...)DJ's was a great industrial group; where did they go? it's too bad they only put out this one EP; would have been excellent to hear more from them as they developed, but i guess they got caught in the limbo of "almost one hit wonders that never had that one hit." Anyhow, i'd recommend it, even if it is just 4 tracks.

Decent songs. The Nativity in Black and Apathy release are definitely Als vocals, except for wordless screams which belong to the orginal reznor version. You know in the end where he's screaming ow or oh or doh over and over. The blackbox version features the original Reznor version on vocals. So there

Despite the credit to "Mr. Buck Satan," this album is worth it's price alone for the cover of Supernaut featuring Trent Reznor's lyrics. It's a shame that Jourgensen (aka Satan) and company didn't go any further with this, and it is rumoured that some of the material that was set to the side will resurface in the extremely long delayed tapeworm project, but that's anyone's guess, and anyone's guess as to whether or not we'll EVER see/hear Tapeworm.
