My favorite remix album,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Supersexy Swingin Sounds (Audio CD)
Usually remix albums are a horrible thought. Very rarely do they deliver a complete experience and most remixes these days seem to just take one line out of a song and repeat it over a crummy breakbeat. However, Supersexy Swingin' Sounds is more like another interpretation of one of the best albums out there, Astro Creep 2000. All the sings from Astro Creep are remixed here (excluding Creature Of The Wheel and I Zombie) plus a remix of "I'm Your Boogie Man" which originally appeared on the Crow City Of Angels soundtrack. All the mixes on here sound awesome, I don't think there is a track on here I don't like. I pretty much wore out my Astro Creep CD, so this is a new way of listening to it. My favorite remix would have to be the Wine, Women & Song Mix of "El Phantasmo & the Chicken Run Blast-O-Rama" which just almost surpasses it's original (It's also pretty much the theme song of a radio station here). If you are a fan of White Zombie's or Rob's work, I strongly recommend you pick this up. It's not like other remix albums and I promise it won't disappoint.

White Zombie - 'Supersexy Swingin' Sounds' (Geffen),
By
This review is from: Supersexy Swingin Sounds (Audio CD)
First off, let me say just how much I LOVE the lay-out art work on this CD release (hubba-hubba!). They used several full color adult pin-ups from (would have to be)the late '60's era. I must also admit that I may like this disc better than I do their 'Astro-Creep: 2000' mostly because it has a diverse sound on just about every tune. Totally dug the after dark mix of "Electric Head Pt. 2", the raw mix of "Grease Paint And Monkey Brains" and the ass-kicking wine, women and song mix of "Blood, Milk And Sky" the most. Great compilation CD.

Surprisingly Decent,

When I bought this, it was really cheap and this was the only White zombie CD not in my collection so I figured, why not? Well I prepared myself to cringe, figuring Astro Creep would be butchered, since Rob Zombie's American Made Music to Strip By had done just exactly that to Hellbilly Deluxe. Half of the Remix's on here are not bad at all, the other half of them are not that great but none of them are nessisarily agonizing to listen to. The best one's have been remixed by Charlie Clouser (Electric head pt. 2, More human than Human, Real Solution #9 and El Phantasmo...) The only song from Astro Creep that hasn't been Remixed is Creature of the wheel and the reason for that I think is that that awesome sludge song would have been pretty hard to remix. So instead, the Dust Brother remixed White Zombie's cover of K.C. and the Sunshine Band's I'm Your Boogie Man, which was originally found on the Soundtrack for the Crow (which by the way is a really good movie). Other remixes that are not half bad include the I' Zombie Remix and the Super Charger Remix. However remixes like those of Blur the Technicolor and Blood, Milk and Sky fall flat into annoyance. The worst remix here is by far the one for Electric Head pt. 1, in which the original was so good that it's honestly no surprise of how bad this version is. It's not a must have to own in your collection, only if you are a big fan of Rob Zombie and White Zombie. Get this cheap or used, and you can appreciate it a little more. As for Rob's other remix album, don't even bother. And as for the CD jacket, well there is no nudity but I have the sudden urge to buy a hammock. Hoped this helped.

CENSORED VERSION not obviously disclosed,

I love this album, BUT I HATE CENSORSHIP. Since it is not marked on the cover nor was it obvious anywhere else before I purchased it, I was extremely disappointed that the product I received was CENSORED!!!
Yes, all the explitives have been edited out. VERY dissappointed when I received this. Wasted my money and now I still have to look for the real deal. Did I mention....I HATE CENSORSHIP!!!

One of the few remix albums that are any good,

Remix albums are most of the time not done too well (see Rob Zombie's "American Made Music to Strip By"), but this is the only case I have come across where a remix album is quite good. The songs from "Astro Creep 2000" are remixed pretty good, adding a techno vibe to the songs, plus there is a cover of "I'm Your Boogieman" which is also on "The Crow: City of Angels" soundtrack. Sadly though, this was White Zombie's last official recording before their untimely breakup.

Remix Delight,
This review is from: Supersexy Swingin Sounds (Audio CD)
Normally I hate remix cd's but this cd is extremely good. I really enjoy White Zombie, but I almost prefer some of these mixes over the origional. I know my statements are probably considered blashphemy but I truely feel that way. A great CD for parties or wild zombie love making. You can't go wrong.

Best Remix cd I've Heard Thus Far!!,
By Sandman "Loverofdamusic" (Canada) - See all my reviews

Usually re-mixes bore the hell outta me and for the most part I don't see the point? If you have a good cd/song, why mess with it? Why take good songs and destroy them completely? Examples, Yes and Queen re-mixes come to mind just off the top of my head as really bad attempts at this. Anyway this is not the case here. Sure their are a few short comings, but for the just cranking it up at parties factor this cd rocks and the girl's a nice touch as well.
Overall a decent attempt that deserves some notice.

Remix Masterpiece,
By Austin (Cali) - See all my reviews

This is an awesome CD!!!! Original is always better but this is pretty good...1. ELECTRIC HEAD PT. 2 (SEXATIONAL AFTER DARK MIX) has a strange backround that doesn't really go with the vibe of the song... 2. MORE HUMAN THAN HUMAN (MEET BAMBI IN THE KING'S HAREM MIX) is often played on tv, it's interesting how they stretch out Rob's vocal to make it sound like, MOOOOORRRRREEEE HUUUUMMMMAAAANNN etc. (this is played on the I, Robot tv spot) 3. I, ZOMBIE (EUROPE IN THE RAW MIX) is by far worse than the original, with the intro EXACTLY the same and the guitars having no drums behind them 4. GREASE PAINT AND MONKEY BRAINS (SIN CENTERS OF SUBURBIA MIX) has kind of a strange backround music, sort of like the intros of More Human Than Human and Brick House 2003, still good 5. BLUR THE TECHNICOLOR (POKER FROM STUD TO STRIP MIX) is better than the original, it has a fast techno beat and the vocals are speeded up 6. SUPER-CHARGER HEAVEN (ADULTS ONLY MIX) is very fun to listen to. The "Route 66 yeah" and all of the parts before the chorus are without any music, with a cool effect. Devilman is echoing too :). 7. EL PHANTASMO AND THE CHICKEN RUN BLAST-O-RAMA (WINE, WOMEN, AND SONG MIX) is the best remix on here, better than original, more heavy-metal 8. BLOOD, MILK, AND SKY (MISS SEPTEMBER MIX) is definately not as good as the original, I like the creepy, walking through a misty graveyerds feel, this vibe is walking through a rainbow clear day rainbow (booo) 9. REAL SOLUTION #9 (MAMBO MANIA MIX) is not a very good mix unfortunately because the original kicked *** 10. ELECTRIC HEAD PT. 1 (SATAN IN HIGH HEELS MIX) is pretty good, recovering from the last to failures, has kind of a drunstick hit the rim beat... 11. I'M YOUR BOOGIEMAN (SEX ON THE ROCKS MIX) is about equal to the original A must have for fans of Astro-Creep 2000

even better than Sinister Urge!,
By Seether (nonya buisness) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Supersexy Swingin Sounds (Audio CD)
I have everything by White Zombie up until Rob Zombie: Sinister Urge, I rate this as perfect, it's techno alternative beat about it maybe, or maybe it's just b/c it's not as hard and as aggressive as all his other freakshow releases, with songs like the Electric Head Remixes (track 1 and 9) and the More Human than Human Remix is basicly the ever-so-ready dance vibes.

WHITE ZOMBIE PRODUCED ALTERNATIVE ROCK-DANCE MUSIC HYBRID,
By A Customer
This review is from: Supersexy Swingin Sounds (Audio CD)
I'm a proud owner of a cassette copy of White Zombie's SUPERSEXY SWINGIN' SOUNDS. Each of the songs on this unique album consists of an ALTERNATIVE ROCK-DANCE MUSIC hybrid! I don't know of anyone else, other than White Zombie, who created such a hybrid! I could barely understand the lyrics of any of these songs. However, I DID understand--and enjoyed--the beat of each of these songs! I really enjoyed listening to this album! I would recommend it to any alternative rock buff--and, well, anyone else lookin' for somethin' to dance to! |
