Grade 4-6-The only thing super about either of these books is the title. Each one includes a brief history of the sport, features some of the prominent stars of the past, and has about 20 black-and-white photographs. Pro Wrestling makes no mention of many of the stars, skips the well-known managers, and hardly acknowledges any African-American or foreign competitors. No discussion of the controversial use of steroids or the "reality" of the competition is included. Figure Skating zeros in on one or two stars per decade, starting with Dick Button in the 1940s, through the 1980s with Brian Boitano and Brian Orser. The final chapter briefly notes some of the new generation of skaters. Fans of both sports will undoubtedly prefer more information on current stars and full-color photographs. Harris M. Lentz's Biographical Dictionary of Professional Wrestling (McFarland, 1997) and Beverly Smith's Figure Skating (McClelland & Stewart, 1994) are much better choices.
