This review is from: Superstitions: 1,013 of the World's Wackiest Myths, Fables & Old Wives Tales (Hardcover)
This is an easy reference book that if you are Superstitous you might not buy simply because of the number 1,013. I think that author choose that number to laugh at themselves.
I didn't know that the number 666 was good luck in China? Or the same for the number 88? Why is it that the bride be brought over the threshold of the new home with the groom holding her in his arms? Why is it good luck to have the doors and windows open when there is a storm? Well the book answers these and many other questions and strange facts which you may or may not know. I myself am just a little superstitious and like to "knock on wood" or at least say that I did. This book is for the believer or even for the disbeliever. It really doesn't take sides. It simply states what the superstition is and it's up to you to believe it or not or to relay it to someone who might want to know. The book is divided into easy to access sections. Most explanations are just a paragraph or two if that. I would say that this book is 100% fun if maybe only a fraction of a percent serious. I only recommend it to those who don't take themselves too seriously. |
