The speaker has pretty decent sound for its size. It supports wired (via 1/8" TRS cable, included) or bluetooth operation. (The iPhone 3.0 OS update includes the A2DP profile for all iPhones. I've tested it with an older model iPhone, and it works perfectly well.) The speaker has a bass boost feature which I've never been compelled to use -- the bass sounds fine without it, and, to my ears, gets a bit muddy and boomy with it on. The speaker seems pretty well constructed.

I have two complaints about this speaker. First, it has a very quick auto-shutoff feature. This is enabled even when the speaker is used fully wired -- plugged in to an A/C socket and receiving the audio signal by cable. This is undocumented by the company, and there's no way to bypass it. The upshot is that if you use it with your computer, it does not behave like a regular speaker. Occasional sounds -- an incoming message, an application notifying you of anything -- are never heard. Instead, the speaker just pops as it comes on, and then moments later, shuts off again.

My other complaint is that, often, when used with bluetooth, the sound crackles intermittently. It doesn't matter if I have the speaker 3 inches away from my computer's bluetooth antenna, or several feet away, the crackling is the same. I've not been able to find a fix for this.

Keeping the speaker is a difficult decision to make. When it works, it's lovely. But the two annoyances I mention can be terribly aggravating.

Recently i purchased the Bluant M1. The design is simplistic, effective and i think elegant. The backlighting on the analog dial is very cool and i do like the analog dial as the quality feeling is higher than a bunch of buttons. Soft-touch music controls are nice as well. In general, very pleasing. The size is quite nice...big enough to get some bass out of the product. It is not audiophile quality but that is not expected for $170. You could actually make it a stand alone music device for a small size room/kitchen too. The travel bag is effective. i think it lacks in true portability enhancement but it works well enough. Bottomline - this is a highly portable, good sounding speaker that you can hook up to an ipod or music phone with a wire or wirelessly using bluetooth. you should have no worries getting this product if you want music on your deck, poolside/beachside, etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great..., October 23, 2008
This review is from: Supertooth M1 Disco Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Speakers Portable Speakerphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I've been looking for a portable bluetooth speaker for a while now, and pulled the trigger on this one, primarily b/c it had more wattage than some other options, and it has a rechargable lithium battery. Everything has been pretty much as advertised...it is adequate for a bedroom or office, and can indeed crank up...my main problem is the lack of seperation (I can't tell if it's stereo or mono) and the bass, even when turned down, is almost too bassy...you can hear the air blow out of the back of it if it's too close to an object. I use it w/ my B'tooth phone for music, and a separate little B'tooth media player. While my phone sounds great w/ my B'tooth Motorola S9 headphones, it doesn't sound near as "clean" on the BlueAnt...the other player, however, has an equalizer, and when I can turn the treble all the way up and the bass down from the source, the output is acceptable. So, to sum up...does everything it claims, concept and design are excellent, but doesn't sound quite as good as say, that universal Sirius boombox w/ the subwoofer inside it. And the price point is way better than the $100 more Parrot seperate speaker cubes, which I would guess probably sounds a little better. The portability factor w/ the carrying case w/ the back opening for the bass and the flap for the AC/line-in is also a nice touch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad sound..., September 18, 2009

1. the charger is too weak to mantain playing at highest volume
2. The high frequency definition is practically non-existant (say goodbuy to high-hats)
3. The mids resonate the grill into an ugly distortion (mids sound bathroomy)
4. The bass is impressive for the size, but very frequency selective (some bass notes will rattle the table, others will be barely audible)...

Now, I know, these are small speakers, and I shouldn't expect much. But Motorola Q5 (much smaller BT speaker) had much better sound, both: better high frequency response and better mids(although no bass). And my Creative T20 (small computer speakers), blew the M1 AWAY in every single category (tighter bass, natural mids, and actual high frequency response). I'm dissappointed. For 150 bucks I didn't expect audiophile, but I expected something decent. The M1 sounds like a cheapo GPX boombox to me. I've gone through a lot of small portable audio in my life - and this guy is just below average in my book. I wish they spent a little more money on the drivers, because these things are really sub-par. Too bad they cheaped out on the most important part - the actual speakers. Interestingly, the power supply will NOT keep it running at full volume! So you can't blast music all day, even if it's plugged in. You have to make a break, and let it charge for a couple of hours. Retarded (I'd like to see someone get fired in the company over this).

On the positive side (yeah, I know): the design is very nice, analog volume, relatively small size, and they're pretty loud for the size. Before I turned them on (and realized that they have to be charged, cause they won't play even when plugged in with a dead battery), they were everything I wanted size-wise and design-wise.

Bought these speakers to use on the road with my Blackberry Tour streaming Pandora Radio via Bluetooth. These speakers exceeded my expectations right out of the box. The package includes a very nice travel case that does not need to be removed to use. There are flaps that use velcro to cover the front speakers and controls as well as the charging port on the rear. The case seems solid and very well built. The controls on the front are easy to view and intuitive. Pairing with my Blackberry was very easy...just like pairing a handsfree device. Sound quality was very good. I don't consider myself an audiophile but I am the person who usually upgrades their car stereo because I like my music to sound rich and clear at all volumes. This unit provides BIG sound despite its portable size. I bought it to use mainly in hotel rooms when traveling. It fills the room and everyone comments about how good it sounds. I have found that it sounds best when placed in a corner or on a shelf in a bookcase. This allows the bass port on the rear to reflect a deeper base tone. The wall charger seems a bit cheap but I don't see it as a weakness...it charges and that's all it was designed to do. Battery life seems to be tied to how high you set the volume. Moderate volumes saw play times of 5-6 hours with bass boost on. I'm sure you can get longer life at lower volumes especially after a few charging cycles. I set the volume on the speaker and then fine tune from the Blackberry. It also allows for my Blackberry to be used as a remote with all media controls...pause, skip, repeat, volume. One very nice feature...if you receive a call the speaker will mute and you can answer the call like normal. Upon ending the call the music will resume without user input. The unit is on the pricey side but is head and shoulders above any other unit I have tried. Would definitely buy again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything I Expected, September 18, 2008
By
This review is from: Supertooth M1 Disco Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Speakers Portable Speakerphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I purchased the BlueAnd M1 speaker to use with my Treo 800w smart phone. I was going on vacation to a beach house and knew I would want access to my mp3 files on the deck and on the beach. After searching through the limited products available, I decided on this and I'm glad I did. The battery life is outstanding...BlueAnt claims 10 hours and though I didn't test it for that long, I know it outlasted my phone battery on every occasion. Even when I resorted to plugging the phone in, the BlueAnt kept us entertained into the early morning hours daily (it outlasted all the humans too!) This little unit packs a punch. Not once have I found myself wishing for more power. Plenty of low end and decent mid-range but higher frequencies were a little noisy (could just be mp3 files or bluetooth connection as I haven't tried to direct connect yet). It comes with a handy carrying case with a handle on one end so it's easy to take around. Came with and AC adapter and cable to connect an mp3 player to the unit (useless with the Treo without an adapter). It was also relatively easy to set up the bluetooth connection with my phone. Essentially, this is a great speaker for the beach, patio, bakyard, etc. It also has speakerphone capabilites but I haven't used those yet. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it., February 12, 2011
This review is from: Supertooth M1 Disco Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Speakers Portable Speakerphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I've purchased numerous electronics online and this is the first review I've written. I have a Droid 2 and was looking for a speaker/speaker system that was wireless, big sound, portable, and rechargeable. Price really wasn't an issue. After many many hours researching and reading reviews I found there are many speakers on the market that may provide 2 or 3 of these features but only the Disco provides all 4. The sound that comes out of this speaker bar is nothing short of amazing. I have 2 friends that have The Bose systems and I must confess the Bose at high volume outside provides more sound but the Bose is bulkier and their model doesnt have bluetooth. You need a separate jack to plug in the droid it only docks the ipod. The battery life on the Disco system is fantastic. I've had the Disco since Christmas and have only needed to charge it 3 times. I love the carrying case, it fits like a glove and I never take the speaker out of it. I just fold the front flap back underneath and it still looks good. I really love that I can control the volume and change songs right from my phone and likewise from the Disco. Great for streaming Pandora! The Disco has a bass boost feature that I rarely use because it sounds great without it. I mostly use the boost at low volume. I initially purchased this product for camping because of its portability and the recharge capabilitiy but I now use it all the time despite the fact I have speakers wired into my home.Oh, and for the price its a steal!

3.0 out of 5 stars Best I've Found, Could Be Better, February 15, 2010

Overall, I would recommend this product but it could certainly be much better. I've found it useful enough times that I'd bet you'd get your money's worth out of it. Just be prepared to get frustrated on occasion.

Pros:
1. The sound quality is better than I expected. It's not amazing and other reviews have given accurate assessments of the sound, but there's only so much you can expect out of a little portable. It's certainly good enough to have around the pool or campfire.
2. Sturdy and nice looking form factor. This isn't some cheap little plastic thing with mismatched parting lines and flimsy connectors.

Cons:
1. Annoying to pair. I'm really sick of critical functionality being buried inside of a single button. Changing the action of a button depending on how long you press it and what intermittent feedback you get back is just dumb. Charge a few extra dollars and put dedicated buttons. Oh, and label them for the hard-of-thinking (ie, make sure you've got it working before you break out the drinks).
2. The case has no spot for the cable. For any real length of time, you're going to need to have the ac adapter plugged in. Unfortunately the form fitting bodyglove-ish case has no way to store it. I've left it in the wrong bag, rendering it useless, at least 3 times.
3. Short range. Perhaps I really was pushing the useful limits of blue-tooth for streaming audio but I felt like you could only have it as far away as you might with an audio cable you might have lying around. Of course, you would then have a cable running through what is likely to be a high traffic area... so I still prefer the wireless option.
4. Annoying to use on Windows Vista. After the hassle of pairing it the first time, you still have to enable the connection, shut down the program that will stream the audio, go to playback devices, switch your primary to the M1 headset, reopen the program to play the audio...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW FINALLY, it works as described, January 16, 2010
This review is from: Supertooth M1 Disco Bluetooth Music Streaming Stereo Speakers Portable Speakerphone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I was a little skeptical about this, , but ordered it to go with my ipod and blackberry, and laptop.
the unit feels very substantial, nice neoprene case.
the sound I heard when paired it with by blackberry 9700, was superb.
It's nice to sit outside or wander around the house with this unit.
nice sound, pairs easily.
I use it alot with my blackberry 9700, with slacker radio, streaming on this.
Nice job Blueant, think I will order another one for my college going daughter.
One note, when streaming internet music, make sure to enable blue tooth transmission in the streaming application, or it will shut off after every song.
I love this speaker.......

Purchased this portable BlueAnt Bluetooth speakers for use with my Blackberry Storm and iTouch to stream music and it works great. It was very easy to get the speakers to sync up with these devices. The sound quality is great for the size of speakers.
