an essential book for women serious about looking great,
By A Customer
This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
I have been weight lifting for over a year now and have read several books on weight lifting for women including "The Woman's Book of Strength" by Karen Andes, Joyce Vedral's book "Weight Training Made Easy", and Cory Everson's "Fat-Free & Fit". "Supervixen" is by far my favorite book. It is the only book that I have found that actually helps you develop specific goals for your body to help give you the best body you can have (symmetry as Negrita calls it). I spent many wasted hours in the gym and lots of money on trainers until I read this book and learned the very specific hand and foot positions for each exercise needed to achieve my particular goals. All bodies are not the same and each requires different excercises. I have personally had great results with this book with much less effort. Most people think I'm 10 years younger than I really am. If you are serious about wanting a better shape and want to see results from your efforts, I highly recommend this book.

REAL RESULTS,
By A Customer
This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
This book is a great addition to women's weight training books. Even if you didn't follow her weight training recommendations, her discussion/celebration of ALL of the curves that make up a woman's body is inspiring and worth reading (rather than just rear end and breast curves - she goes into the calf curve, the lower back curve, etc.) It requires a balanced workout to achieve symmetry. She definitely speaks from a woman who KNOWS what she is doing. What I get from her is that she honors the female body. She also dispenses practical knowledge of how to increase those curves and zero in on trouble spots that we all struggle with - and also helps you determine what your body type is and what you need. Okay, here's an example of one of her million dollar secrets. She maintains that "saddlebags" generate from the quads, not from the butt, as I'd always thought. She recommends these grueling 6" foot placement full down squats as a remedy - I've been doing these for a month now, and bingo! This trouble spot I've been working on for 1-1/2 years is disappearing (thanks also to my increased cardio, 5x a week), and I'm developing great shape to my legs. I ran her concepts by my personal trainer/friend at my gym and he said, "Yep! It's all about the angles!" I can't believe the difference it makes, the simple foot placement on squats or leg presses, and it does change the exercise. ALSO - regarding her comments about men looking at her curves - I have a completely different take on this. She isn't flaunting herself, she is speaking lightly of the male instinct to follow curves with their eyes (I have curves, and I KNOW this happens - no ego necessary, it's just the way males are designed)- she's just discussing the power of symmetry, not how great she is. (Come on, ladies, don't you notice great symmetry on a man? I do!) She writes in a humorous, pull-no-punches style. I wouldn't recommend this book for a first beginner (try Body for Life for this). However, if you're looking to detail out, it's a great resource unlike any I've found. While I find the cover photo a bit daunting (very buff and pumped up, almost male-like physique - but that's cool, we can all look like we want to).....I love her curved look inside - definitely a strong and powerful woman. I didn't really use this book for her nutritional advice - much of her tips are common sense things, though I eat differently than her meal plans. A good addition to your weight training library, I believe Negrita shares more secrets than you'll get elsewhere.

Woman Of The World -- Get Sexy, Shapely, Curves Now!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
Supervixen is 20 years ahead of its time. It is the first book ever, to seriously explain why the female form is universally magnetic! That alone makes the book worthy of purchase. However, Negrita goes on to chart directions with over 100 exercises designed to get those magnetic curves. An amazing insight of exercise physiology applied to womanly curv-ology--the key to visual charisma. I found this book a gem of insight--yes--the exercises are not easy and Negrita makes it quite plain that work begets the desired result, but the results are sooo desireable. People looking for a free ride here should take the bus and suck on low-fat yogurt, this book radiates self-discipline and I found that position so refreshing in a world of deceptive snake oil charmers that promise amazing results in just a few minutes a day. Jayde makes it abundantly clear--there's no such thing as a massive shortcut. And that is the cornerstone of the book. Negrita talks to you like she's sitting in your living room and telling you the real skinny on getting shapely. No bull, just rare insights that work with time, hard work and focus. I know, I've done the hard work, time and focus--but without the truth--and I went nowhere. With Jayde's exercise tips I see my body sprouting all sorts of new shape and sexy muscles. And I LIKE IT! SUPERVIXEN is a hit; an island of truth amongst the sea of physical culture fluff books.

The Best Book for Women - PERIOD,
By NewYorkLady (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
I have a shelf full of weight training books, some of them are quite good, but this book is the BEST. While there are many books that will show you how to strengthen your upper body and lower body, overtime, they do not address the fact that you have to begin to isolate smaller areas and make small adjustments to your form (such as positioning your foot in or outward) in order to achieve maximum results, meaning to get really toned, cut, and overcome figure flaws. This is hard work, to be sure. And some of the exercises in this book, should not be attempted, in my opinion, until basic muscle mass has been built, so I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. But, for someone who has been training consistently and wants to take her body to the next level, this is the book for you, and if you work it, you will make heads turn! I also like the fact that the author points out figure flaws, that are obvious to so many of us self conscious women, but few weight training authors address: flat calves, thick ankles, thick waists, and she admits that while some of these things are genetic and cannot be changed, you can with hard work and the proper adjustments to your program, alter these muscles slightly, and alter surronding muscles to make lessen the appearance of figure flaws. The author shows you exactly how to do this! For those Amazon reviewers who take offense to the author's high regard for her attractivness, I see nothing wrong with confidence and she has earned it! I wish more women, would take this attitude, stop comparing themselves to genetically mutant models and go to the gym and change what they don't like. I found her writing inspirational, and her advanced knowledge of weight training better than any of the Joyce Vedral and the rest!

The good, the bad, and the ugly.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
I wanted to like this book. It was written by a woman, for women, encouraging them to exercise and eat a healthy diet to achieve their desire for a better body. The fitness section offers a variety of exercises and the nutrition section contains some sound advice for adjusting your eating habits. Imagine my disappointment, however, when I discovered fallacies, dubious claims, contradictions, unsafe exercises and even brainwashing sprinkled throughout the chapters. This book is supposed to be for women who want to improve their bodies. The problem is, Jayde defines the ideal you should strive for. She might have a point if her target audience was comprised of bodybuilders and fitness competitors, but to state that the average Jane should have less than 18% body fat and all "seven sensuous curves" feeds on women's tendencies to find fault with their bodies and subtly discourages women who would otherwise attain a lesser goal. For the most part, the exercises she presents are safe and effective, but if some are performed as she recommends, the stress on your shoulders, knees, and low back will predispose those areas to injury. Other exercises are ineffective for strengthening muscles or changing the target body flaw, and some are not safe at all. The "Waspy Waist" section is particularly bad. Jayde recommends doing full range sit-ups (unnecessary because after 45 degrees, the hip flexors do the work, and they have no effect on your waist), waist twists (which do little for your obliques other than warm and stretch them), and double straight leg raises (which will strain your lumbar spine if you don't keep your low back flat, a tip glaringly absent from the text). In addition, Jayde encourages readers to believe her observations and experience rather than "expert" opinion, an arrogant statement you would be wise to ignore. The section on foods is no better. Wonderful advice (which closely resembles that found in credible texts) is followed by various claims and recommendations that may not have any scientific basis (hard to tell, since she doesn't tell us where she got the information). Her advice is also inconsistent and extreme. For example, she lists foods to avoid, but then includes them in her 30-day menu. She tells you to avoid sugar and junk food completely, not even allowing an occasional treat. She also encourages the use of protein powders in spite of evidence that most Americans consume more than sufficient amounts of protein and without mentioning that these powders are often expensive. If you want to change how you look, ask a trainer at your gym for an exercise program and buy an authoritative nutritional guide. Don't buy this book.

It's the Inspiration, Sweetheart!,

This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
I have looked at and tried many bodybuilding workouts over the last year and I was floored by this one.It is not my favorite routine for creating a sculpted look. The magic of this book is Jayde's commentary regarding the esthetic appeal of the female form. I have long been observing women at the gym who really put in the time with aerobics and the treadmill and look like skinny, bony little potato sacks--no sexual appeal, no joy emanation, nothing that invites the eye to linger and admire the results of all that work! What is so wonderful about this book is her absolute audacity, her confidence and celebration of womanly curves. Are we supposed to be ashamed of our curves and suppress them in a shapeless body? I think not. Her observation regarding "visual fatigue" is, in itself, an insight that is worth the price of this book. She's hot! She's great! Check it out and permit yourself to strive for your own feminine ideal that is within your own power to obtain. But one caveat: Look at Atkins and Schwarzbein for dietary advice. Good luck! May the female force be with you.

A book I would recommend to others!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
I enjoyed Negrita Jayde's upbeat and positive approach to the reader. She goes indepth to explain the "curves" of the female body and how to acheive them in a sensible manner. Her methods are goal oriented and not intimidating. She is quite candid with the reader and explains at the start that in order to attain the symetric body the reader is after, the reader will have to work at it. She is quite convincing and reassuring that anyone can achieve the symetry. The only part of the book I found to be poor is the diet section...I think it is far too restrictive and therefore, takes away from the book...

Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body,
By Robin L. Vea (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body (Paperback)
This is the best women's bodybuilding book I have ever been priviledged to use. I recommend this book to everyone. The reason this book is so great is that it breaks down your bodybuilding workouts into more specific muscle workout areas. Most people will start working out upper body one day and lower body another. Then they break down into legs, arms, chest, etc. This book breaks it down even further and gives you example pictures of problem areas you might have and exactly what to work for that area. I actually took this book to the gym with me and referenced it throughout my workouts until I knew what I was doing. I have to say that because of this book I doubled my muscle mass in approximately 6 months. If anyone asks me for help, this is "THE" book I tell them to get. You can't go wrong with this one!

Negrita shows a lot of problem areas for women and specific exercises to correct them. I think the drawing are a little unrealistic, but they get the point across! She has a beautiful body and great lines, which is what this book is all about. I learned a few exercises that I'd never even heard of before and now incorproate into my routine. It's a winner!

Ahhhh,... this book. I stumbled upon it by accident when looking for time travel. In a sense it was for me! I used to carry this book around until it fell apart. It was my manual as a teen at the gym. I remember it talked about having the right curves in the right spots and how that was superior to develop over the other types of body. It gave instructions on how to do that.
