4.0 out of 5 stars Super Delicious Exploitation from Meyer..., December 1, 2005
Russ Meyer is a truly original American filmmaker of the highest caliber. His films are filled with lightning-speed edits, larger-than-life characters, delicious women, and over-the-top acting. His movies are shining examples of wonderful exploitation. They are by no means `high-art' and should not be judged as such. Myer masterfully puts his unique vision on the screen in all of his films, and `SuperVixens' is a shinning example of this.
This film starts off wonderfully, for it is incredibly entertaining and highly humorous (filled with VERY sexy women, large breasts, and lots of violence of course). It maintains a pretty rudimentary story-line, but that was never something that Meyer really pursued. He is more concerned with amusing characters, gorgeous women, and sweet violence, and this movie has plenty of that. Charles Napier gives one of his best performances ever here, as a psychotic, impotent, woman-killing cop. Shari Eubanks is dynamite and a vision to behold. My only complaint about this film is that it loses a bit of momentum after its blazing beginning. If you are into Russ Meyer you have undoubtedly seen this film- if you haven't, you must! The transfer to DVD is of a very high quality- the sound and picture and crystal clear. If you have never seen any of Meyer's films, this as good a place to start as any...

4.0 out of 5 stars Boobs, January 19, 2007
Super Vixens may not be the best example of Meyer's work, but it's a good introduction for a beginner. The movie is like two films in one. It starts off with a gas station attendant, Clint, who's girlfriend(or is it wife?) is killed by a psychotic police officer. Clint runs for the hills, fearing he'll be blamed for her death. The movie gets into a rhythm here where all along his travels he keeps running into situations where sexy women all want to get him in the sack. All these women have strings attached however, whether it's a jealous husband or overprotective father. This leads to situations of misunderstanding and keeps Clint on the run. The movie comes full circle in the last third when he meets a woman he actually likes and runs into the murderous cop again, and must have a final showdown. That's the plot. It's simple and silly, but in Meyer's hands, it's always entertaining. Those familiar with his style know what I'm talking about. For those not so familiar it's like this: Meyer's films are basically sex comedies, to put it in the most generic of terms. His movies are almost indescribable coz he's pretty much his own genre. He keeps the screen packed with nudity and/or sex scenes, but Meyer's intention isn't so much to arouse as it is to make you laugh. The sex scenes aren't erotic. Sure, the women are amazing to look at, but the sex is so over the top and zany that you have no choice but to take it as comedy. If you want an actual sex film, there are many others available to you out there. This is for laughs. Meyer edits rapidly. Similar to what music videos would do years later. This technique makes the film even more bizarre. It's a prevalent technique now, but it still works here and still looks very original. Random shots of silliness are thrown in for no real reason-A naked telephone operator sitting on railroad tracks, a woman straddling a mountain peak or a naked old man running with a chicken held over his privates. But for all this goofiness, Meyer seems to have a disturbing dark side which he lets loose every now and again. Early on in Super Vixens, we're shown a rather brutal murder scene. This scene doesn't fit so well with the tone of the rest of the film. This scene would come across as brutal in a horror film, so it seems even more brutal in a film that had you laughing a few moments prior. Some folks complain about it, but I just ride with it considering the whole damn movie is so surreal anyway. This film(and any Meyer film for that matter) is well worth the viewing, but good luck finding it at your local rental store. All sites on the internet are asking outrageous prices for all his movies and that's B.S. if you ask me. No one should have to pay thirty bucks or more for a single dvd. I'm amazed that Criterion still gets away with it. But however you can get your mitts on it, you'll be glad you did. Super Vixens is a good time.
