Book Description

March 2001 History of United States Naval Operations in World War II, 15 (Book 15)
This spectacular fifteen-volume series that charts the U.S. Naval operations during World War II with an insider's perspective. Morison, a Harvard professor, was given a special rank and writing post by FDR. He had active duty aboard eleven different ships, allowing him to witness many crucial battles in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This supplemental volume to Professor Morison's series includes the story of postwar operations of the Navy in the Pacific, a list of all named ships in the U.S. Navy during World War II, a list of important errata discovered in Volumes I-XIV and a general index to Volume I-XIV. Filled with many maps and file photographs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, January 21, 2008

This is part of a seminal history of the Navy in World War II. Anyone who is a historian should take some time and read this series. Sometimes dry, sometimes very well written, it gives the grand panorama to a naval war that rewrote the book on how the Navy would operate. A book that has been rewritten since.

4.0 out of 5 stars Navy World War II, February 10, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Supplement and General Index (History of United States Naval Operations in World War II, 15) (v. 15) (Hardcover)
When Morison's History was first published I purchased all volumes except the supplement. Purchasing the supplement now filled out the full set.
I have used Morison's history to jog my memory of certain events that I experienced in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Most recently what is now called Halsey's Typhoon in 1944. 790 men drowned and hardly anyone knows about their sacrifice. No medals, No battle stars, no monuments, no body seems to give a damn. 790 sailors. Close your eyes Navy Department. Maybe they will go away.
