This guide was written to help families, educators, therapists, and other professionals learn effective ways to assist individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in school and community recreation activities. According to the authors, persons with ASD can learn lifelong leisure skills through organized recreation programs, and in this book they offer strategies to assist service providers in the creation of meaningful recreation services for children, adolescents, and adults. Individual chapters cogently address special planning and preparations to make; camp programs especially for autism spectrum disorder individuals; strategies often used to develop recreational skills; and more. An accessibly written, down-to-earth guide, Supporting Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder In Recreation is an informative and very welcome contribution to both Disability Parenting collections and Special Educational reference shelves.
