Editorial Reviews

Brian Keith, Ernest Borgnine, Suzanne Pleshette and Tony Curtis head a Â"first-rate castÂ" (Motion Picture Herald) in this Â"sharp, amusingÂ" (The New York Times) comedy that pits the fed-up brass of an Army base against the fired-up citizens of a nearby town!In an effort to shore up a shaky truce between civilians and base personnel, three hapless Army buddies find themselves appointed Â"community public relations officers.Â" Unfortunately, Sergeant Shannon GambroniÂ's (Curtis) idea of community relations includes pursuing and wooing Ramona (Pleshette), a sexy waitress whom Sheriff Harve (Borgnine) considers his personal property. And when ammo and amour finally clash in an outrageous battle royal, who will ultimately surrender?

5.0 out of 5 stars This Military versus Civilian Comedy/Spoof Rules!!, May 15, 2002
By A Customer
In this Vietnam-era movie with an all-star cast that includes Tony Curtis,Ernest Borgnine,Brian Keith,Ivan Dixon,Suzanne Pleshette,Don Ameche and others.Warrant Officer Micheal Nace(Brian Keith) gets assigned to a large Army Base assigned as a community relations specialist who is reunited with his 2 long time Pals Sargent Shannon Gambroni(Tony Curtis) and Sargent Raymond Jones(Ivan Dixon). There has been a long time feud between the soldiers and the small town just outside the base.So Nace decides to throw a party to unite the 2 sides.Tensions reach a boiling point when Shannon is arrested for indecent behavior while hitting on the local Sheriff's(Earnest Borgnine)prospective girlfriend(Suzanne Pleshette).Nace and Jones commandeer an old WW2 Tank and crash their way through the town jail to rescue and free their friend and set the record straight once and for all especially with the bigoted, brutal Sheriff which makes this film probably the best Military versus Civilian Comedy/Spoof ever!!

Fantastic all star cast. Lots of laughs. It starts a little slow, doesn't have much of a plot but is entertaining. The war is between the local Army base and the local sheriff.

This is a good comedy starring: Brian Keith, Ernest Borgnine, Suzanne Pleshette, Don Ameche, Tom Ewell, Arthur O'Connell, Ivan Dixon, Bradford Dillman, John Fiedler, Tony Curtis and Christopher Mitchum in small roles. This movie runs about 113 minutes (1hr 53min) in Widescreen format (1.85:1) and is in color. It all starts with the local Sheriff not wanting the army in his town and the army making a deal of there own, when one of there own gets into trouble. I would recommend this.
