3.0 out of 5 stars Tough read - great message!
Kelly Cyr has written a very explicit account of her life within codependancy and abuse. I found this book, written in an almost "journal" style to give very interesting descriptions of people, places, and events. Kelly is very good at unravelling the circumstances that lead up to the many sad and violent events of her life both with and without her ex-husband, "Kane"...

4.0 out of 5 stars Overcoming All Odds, May 31, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
This book was an emotional roller coaster ride. You keep hoping that Kane changes but always, out of the blue, he "flips the script". The writer does an awesome job at expressing in detail her emotions throughout...good, bad, and ugly. At the beginning of this relationship, there were alot of warning signs. In past experience, I too ignored the "little issues" with the person; like him being irritated easily, or me paying for everything; things that I would justify or overlook instead of accepting the fact the person had a serious problem.
This book is not only inspirational because of the way the writer is able to overcome all obstacles; it is very informative. I plan to use this book as a teaching tool for my women's ministry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strength is in all of us, August 13, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
Supreme Love is a great book that pulls you into the life of Kelly Cyr...You want to cry, laugh and keep reading just to make sure this poor woman makes it out of this horrible situation! It's hard to believe any one could live through everything in this book...It is a true testament of how strong we can be when we really need to be, and how God is with us always even if we don't think he is. It helped increase my awareness of early signs of future abuse I think every young girl should read this if for no other reason than to potentially get out of a bad situation before it gets horrible, or avoid trouble all together. I got so much out of it...read it and there's no way you won't be affected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling true story of a battered woman that reads like a novel., July 25, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
Very detailed account of what it is like to get drawn into an abusive relationship. While the book is long, the story is gripping and reads more like a novel. Clearly shows the warning signs that women need to look for. If you are having doubts about your own relationship then read this book because it might save you from the kind of pain and heartache that Kelly experienced. Congrats Kelly for having the courage to write this.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Review is from Olde Grog, May 21, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
It took me a while to begin reading this book, I had some apprehensions about it. Painful experiences that had occurred in my childhood. Looking at a battered woman from a child's perspective, the reading brought back some painful memories.

The story will draw you in from page one, telling the story of Kelly's life in intimate detail. The story is an amazing spiritual journey, a testament to the proof of the Creator's love.

The obstacles that she overcame are truly amazing to behold, the abuse, the heartbreak, the pain...all these had echoes in my own life. This work is relevant, it is real, it goes into great detail showing the signs that lead up to violent abusive relationships. It is a story of survival and triumph, one that is uplifting as you are carried through the story of her life.

Kelly bares her soul to show others that there is hope...

Technically, it is overall a well written book, I found the "journal" of her life to be fascinating. The size of the book is at first daunting, yet the large print allows for an easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving read, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
This book really drew me in to the emotional roller coaster ride of being a battered wife. I felt the author's love, fear, hope, despair, and everything in between. In the end my spirit was lifted by the author's strength and courage. This is a must read for anyone who wants to understand the reality of domestic abuse and not just know the statistics. This book can help foster change by helping all of us to understand the nature of the problem. The first step in change is knowledge and this book offers that and much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speaking Truth Leads To Healing And Helping Yourself And Others, May 14, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
I read this book with the jaded remembrances of my past dealings with domestic violence and child abuse. To see, in vivid words and truth, all that transpires when one is not aware of the genuine dangers of domestic violence is a grand wakeup call. I believe that this book shows others what the 'signs' are of an impending violent relationship and, therefore, allows those involved to make a wise and informed decision. I am a great advocate for ending domestic abuse/violence and child abuse and this book shows the inside hallways of domestic violence. The willingness of Kelly to share her story gives great hope to me that maybe, just maybe, the silence that surrounds domestic abuse/violence will be shattered and that this disease can be brought to the light of day and revealed for the horror that it is. I highly recommend reading this book, whether you are or were in an abusive/violent relationship or know someone who is or has been or think that it is far from you and will never happen to you or those you love. This book shows the warnings that most refuse to see through the veils of love, desire and wanting. A very deep and good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supreme Love - A Battered Woman's True Story, January 15, 2008
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story
This is a story that was very compelling from the beginning to the end. Kelly was very honest and open in writing her story, and it is clear that she learned a lot of hard lessons along the way, while making a better life for herself and her children. This is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of story that shows how happiness for a family can turn ugly with abuse. However, her cloud does have a silver lining when she finds the love of God. Given the fact that Kelly did the book without an outside publisher/editor, it does have several grammatical flaws, but the story is so very intriguing that these can easily be overlooked. Overall, the story was a great read, which I would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blessing in Disguise, January 13, 2008
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
Kelly has done a phenomenal job writing this book! With her bravery of telling the truths of her story, no matter how personal or emotional it may have been, she brought out the reality of what goes on behind closed doors.

-It opens the eyes of people who are blind to what kind of pain a battered woman goes through.

-It gives the survivors of domestic violence strength to know that they too can get through the pain of the past and go on to have a much happier and fulfilled lives.

- And it reaches out to the women who are still in a battered relationship, giving them hope (knowing they are not alone).

Which is why I just purchased another copy to send to a dear friend. I know this book will reach out and inspire her as well!

-Destiny

5.0 out of 5 stars A Disturbing Snapshot of Domestic Abuse, December 14, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
This is an excellent book. A book that will open eyes and raise awareness of what goes on in a home filled with domestic abuse, and how a victim copes, and how an abuser operates. This should be in the hands of every community official who can make a difference in fighting domestic abuse in their area. It should be in the hands of every victim of domestic abuse. If possible, it would be excellent to force every abuser to read, but most would never read it because they would not want to see themselves starring back from the pages of the book and confront their own demons. I am praying that this author will be able to start the ministry to victims of domestic abuse that she has the vision for!

5.0 out of 5 stars Supreme Love: A true story it is!, October 19, 2007
This review is from: Supreme Love: A Battered Woman's True Story (Paperback)
I love this book! It provides so much insight into the life of a woman, and her family, and what they dealt with for so long while living with an abusive man. And brings to light how devastating emotional and mental abuse truly is, as well as physical. Kelly Cyr also does a wonderful job providing her readers with details of the surrounding countryside, as well has historical data. I am enthralled with this book, and suggest it to anyone who is now, or has lived with domestic violence, in any of it's forms, as well as anyone who would like more insight on the actual life of a survivor! KUDOS KELLY!!!
