Editorial Reviews

Review

Supreme Bar Review's MPRE course is amazing. I took one of my school's ethics classes to fulfill the professional responsibility requirement & prepare for the MPRE. Unfortunately, I didn't learn much, so I was vary wary about taking the MPRE. Fortunately, Supreme's course taught me everything I needed to know & then some - I scored 30 pts above the minimum pass score for my jurisdiction.

Professor Lazarus does a great job of explaining the course's rather thorough outline, & does an even better job of showing how to deal with the exam's tougher questions. He is serious, but has a wry sense of humor, & a presence that is both authoritative & comforting.

The course also comes with many practice questions & well written answers for each. One of the best things about the course is that unlike in a crowded lecture, you can stop it when you come to a difficult pt, rewind it, & watch it as many times as you want! I highly recommend this course! - I would take this over Barbi anyday!(its alot less expensive than a Barbri course too!) --Constantine Paleologus

I scored 20+ points more than I needed to pass the exam. Your materials provided concise, relevant information with interesting previous test questions. Your materials, utilized the night before the exam, were the only study aids I employed. I have been a practicing attorney for 11 years and did not otherwise take a class in professional responsibility. Nice work. --Philip R. Sheldon, Esq., Tarzana, CA

The MPRE Review course was the only study material I used to pass the MPRE. As long as the material is faithfully studied, a student should be able to pass the exam. The video and accompanying study materials are effectively organized and provide all that is necessary to pass the exam. --David Pascale, Troy, NY

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book!, March 16, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Supreme Bar Review MPRE Review, Revised Edition (Book & DVD) (Paperback)
I just bought this book for the March MPRE, and I would highly recommend it to other law students! This book was far more concise than the Bar/Bri materials, taking you directly to the point of what you need to know for the exam. It also includes all of the released questions from past MPRE exams, together with an explanation of all the correct answers! You won't find that from Bar/Bri, folks. The DVD is also somewhat helpful, and will take you step by step through both the outline and the sample problems (although I did find the recitation of the outline, which cannot be skipped, to be a bit tedious).

In sum, I felt confident and thoroughly prepared for the MPRE after reading this book. Now, the actual exam was somewhat random, but I think I did perfectly well with just this book alone. I had the Bar/Bri at hand, but didn't even end up using it, since I was so much more impressed by Supreme MPRE. Highly recommended!

UPDATE: Just got back my score report and I managed a whopping 134 out of 150 on the MPRE, using almost only this book and DVD and studying half-heartedly for a few hours a day over the course of 3 days! Well worth the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, quick, adequate., August 4, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Supreme Bar Review MPRE Review, Revised Edition (Book & DVD) (Paperback)
As other reviewers have pointed out, this guide is not very comprehensive, but it covers enough to get a passing score and the price is right ($40 when I wrote this). If you paid for BAR/BRI full bar review, you get their materials for free, but this is a solid alternative, especially if you don't want to put a lot of time into the MPRE. The outline is short and sticks to commonly tested subjects. The sample problems and explanations are great. I saw at least four questions (of 50) on the MPRE that were repeated and several others that were similar.

There were some questions that were complete surprises to me. My classmates who used BAR/BRI said they were also surprised, so I don't think Supreme can be faulted for that. BAR/BRI is more comprehensive, however. I definitely recommend some kind of prep, though, because the test can be tricky and they don't track particular states' rules exactly (I'm from a Texas law school and there are significant differences from our rules). Supreme is good if you want a crash course and the DVD means you don't have to worry about scheduling around the one lecture BAR/BRI offers.

Edit (9/5/06): I got a scaled score of 119 out of 150 (needed 85 to pass) after using this book for 1 day. Primarily I just did the practice problems and answers. Didn't watch the DVD. Couldn't use BAR/BRI because they rescheduled the lecture at the last minute. My score seems to be higher than my classmates,' which is unusual, so I would give this 5 Stars now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Semi-Valuable Snoozefest, June 17, 2008
This review is from: Supreme Bar Review MPRE Review, Revised Edition (Book & DVD) (Paperback)
Just about anything that summarizes the material appearing on the MPRE can be helful. In that sense, this study tool earns a few stars. You get some practice questions and an outline. If you haven't taken Professional Responsibility (or Legal Ethics) then you'll definitely need something like this. Even if you did take a course it might not be clear which material will be on the MPRE. This will help you know what to memorize. The presentation is absolutely horrible though. It's just soooo boring (the DVD in particular) and not very in-depth. On the plus side, however, it is extremely cheap compared to some alternatives.
