The melodies are catchy, the lyrics amusing and the music varied and unpredictable.

It is the PERFECT album to describe living between two cultures, and he knows both so well, it is expressed through his music.

I am not much of a critic or even a reviewer. But this is an excellent album full of interesting mixtures. Spanish and English, Tango, Cumbia, Grunge, and even a little bit of James Brown. And I want to recommend it to everyone I can. I have to say that my favorite song is Hindu Blues.
I have seen Kevin perform twice in Argentina and was just about blown away. This is truly a top-quality album.
Glad to see that Amazon has decided to sell Kevin's CDs, he is an oustanding musician. Also look for a previous album called De Nada.

I just "discovered" Kevin Johansen due to the Latin Grammys (surprise, surprise, I guess they are good for something). I decided to venture out and buy the album...I love it. It is so witty, eclectic, humorous, and charming. It is the PERFECT album to describe living between two cultures, and he knows both so well, it is expressed through his music.

I grew up at the border in between both Mexican and U.S. culture, totally immersed in both, the daily life, contradictions from both cultures, the complexities, the absurdidies. I felt like Kevin was speaking about ME in this album. Plus, I love his take on U.S. and Argentine cultures.

I recommend this for open minded, worldly people. It is definitely not a commercial album or sound. It is a little quirky actually if you ask me, with a great sense of humor and musical genious.

Thsi CD is so fresh, melodic and simply addicting that I find it incredible that fewer people in the US have not heard of Kevin Johansen.

I knew Kevin when he was 15. We went to the same crazy literary workshop at La Escuela Del Sol in Buenos Aires. He had the deepest, sexiest voice I had ever heard and he still does! I bought Sur o No Sur first and played it constantly and endlessly in my car. Then I bought Nada and did the same. He's absolutely unique. A great singer and songwriter, playing with great musicians, having fun. What I find funniest is that I've incorporated some of his funny lines into my regular conversation with friends.

"Kevin who?" me preguntaba. I don't know art, but I know what I like").

I first heard the song "timing" in a Argentine Tango performance. I thought that it was Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits. When I asked the performer he gave me Kevin Johansens website, it was only in spanish which I don't read but I was still intrigued and so I bought this cd. I love it! The melodies are catchy, the lyrics amusing and the music varied and unpredictable. I would definitely recommend this cd.

After reading different reviews in the Utne Reader and the Christian Science Monitor and then doing my ten minute online research I heard this CD calling me .... (a variation on his great spanglish song "star estrella") It hasn't disappointed. I have spent ten days hearing these tunes haunt me for hours after listening to the music. Humor, melody, rhythm that sticks and lovely disonances that charm have me entranced. Johansen's description of Barry While meeting Nirvana in his tune "Down with my Baby" delivers a song with a hook that works. Like one of the other reviewers, I currently count "hindue blues" as my favorite, (that could change tomorrow) as I'm struck by the sense I'm hearing Harrison and Lennon playing with their melodies after meeting Ravi Shankar. (yes, I'm fifty) Kevin Johansen and the Nada write great songs and seem to enjoy playing them with fine musicianship as well. The spanish parts I can't exactly track, don't detract and in fact I may be learning while enjoying.
