Product Description

Sure Grip Zombie Quad Roller Derby Skate Wheels - Your Choice of 89A Purple, 92A Black, 95A Red, or 98A Green in LOW MID or MAX wheel sizes! Tired of new wheels not performing like your last set? The Zombie wheel will never have this problem. Zombie wheels feature anodized aluminum hubs for maximum durability and precise feel while maintaining rock solid stability. This allows our unique urethane compounds to deliver all your power to the floor. Choose the Zombie combination that fits your skating style and surface. Zombie Aluminum Core - Designed in house and manufactured using state of the art machining technology. What makes this different from other aluminum cores? The Zombie core is machined from a solid billet of aluminum, using the same manufacturing processes as they use to make the famous Power Trac racing plates. This increases strength and allows us to machine the hub to a tighter tolerance than any other hub on the market. Creating the perfect fit between bearing and inner core. Cores are then treated with a special anodizing process to increase hub durability and urethane bonding. This technology is unique to the Zombie wheel line. Zombie Insane Urethane - Specially formulated to our exact specifications that were developed from 75 years in the skate wheel business. What makes this wheel different from the rest? All wheels are poured using a precise time schedule to ensue product quality throughout the range. Typically wheels are poured over time, sometimes days. This can change the characteristic of a wheel poured one day vs. another or even morning vs. afternoon. This timing is what make the Zombie wheel the most unique wheel on the market.

These are the wheels that I ordered with my custom skates for roller derby about a year ago. I got Vanilla Brass Knuckle Blackout Boots, white magnesium Avenger plates by Sure-Grip, Zombie mids in 89A (purple) as well as a set in 92A (black,) Qube 8 bearings and Gumball toe stops. I found the Zombie wheels to be very appealing looking.

However, I was not particularly impressed, or disappointed for that matter, with their performance. They are fine wheels, I suppose. I have just continued to consistently prefer other wheels of similar durometer over these, ever since I bought them. Atom Poisons in 84A cost much less and are a stellar wheel, if you're looking for lots of grip. Omegas in 93A are also less costly and I strongly prefer them to the black Zombies in 92A.

Also, and I know that aluminum hubs are generally trickier to get your bearings out of, but my experience with Zombie wheels has been that my bearings are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to remove from them. I absolutely dread cleaning my bearings. Half of the time, I am not even able to complete the task because some of the bearings simply will not budge. Will. Not. Budge. I have to damage my bearings if i want them out, not to mention my hands and knuckles.

All in all, I don't find that these wheels are worth the extra bucks. And if you're not experienced with aluminum hubs, be forewarned, that these wheels are capable of making you hate your life when it comes time to change out your bearings.

Love my new wheels! I've been playing derby for about 4 months, and these wheels have been GREAT. My team plays mostly on hardwood and concrete, and they have done just fine. My coach bought the same wheels as well, and loved them. I got the mid-width and they have been just fine for both jamming and blocking. Lower profile so less skate-checking. I just wasn't ready to go with the low-width since I'm still working on stability.

I purchased a set of 95A's earlier this year and have not had any issues with flat spots which may have more to do with technique rather than the quality of the wheel. After all, wheels are made to roll forward or backward, not sideways. Bearing removal has also been a snap with the right tools. In my 25+ years of experience, these wheels rank near the top of my list. I will be adding the 92's and 98's to my arsenal in the near future to handle the different floors I skate on. It's hard to beat the price for an aluminum hub wheel.
